- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
- Insurance verification: 1 year (Preferred)
- Medical billing: 1 year (Preferred)
Education, Training, Experience:
1\. High school graduate required, business school or specialized training preferred.
2\. One to two years experience as an insurance verifier in an ASC, hospital or physician’s office; specialty of ophthalmology preferred.
3\. Computer proficient.
Responsibilities:
1\. Maintain direct contact, as required to perform the job description noted, with physician office staff, insurance companies and patients.
2\. Determine and verify the primary, secondary commercial insurance, as well as Medicare / Medicaid insurance for all patient accounts.
3\. Verify all Workers Compensation patients with the adjusters on file, to confirm as approved, as well as determine if there is secondary insurance in place.
4\. Utilize multiple databases, insurance websites and telephone contacts to obtain and verify patient demographics, health benefits, insurance benefits.
5\. Determine patient responsibility based on insurance contract and patient’s policy limitations and prepare the patient estimate form and the CC authorization form for signature on the DOS.
6\. Confirm that all patient demographics, insurance data and financial information are entered correctly into the computer, while maintaining confidentiality for all patients served; Resolve any discrepancies found, as needed; confirm for accuracy and completeness.
7\. Ensure all patient accounts are accurate and ready for billing and collections.
8\. Educate patients to inform them of their benefits information, answering courteously, appropriately and promptly, all questions from patients regarding insurance benefits and patient responsibility.
9\. Respond to all internal and external phone calls regarding patient’s insurance verification inquiries.
10\. Assist the Billing Clerk with A/R follow up, as applicable and as time permits.
