SUMMARY

The Investigations Assistant position is under the supervision of the Investigations Sergeant. Responsibilities include managing the sex offender registry, greeting customers, performing data entry, answering the phone and responding to message requests. This position provides support to the investigative division of the police department as needed.

EXAMPLES OF RESPONSIIBILITY

  • Answer incoming calls directed to operations of the sex offender registry.
  • Perform data entry inputting data for the sex offender registry.
  • Compile records and log sheets of all activities pertaining to the sex offender registry.
  • Keep up to date stats for all offenders that fall under police department’s jurisdiction.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to greet and assist the public in a professional, cordial and helpful manner.
  • Ability to collect data, compile reports and properly maintain filing systems.
  • Ability to maintain discretion in relation to departmental operations.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of City and department rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, representatives of other agencies and the general public.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with computers and software programs that are relevant to the position.
  • Valid Tennessee Driver’s License
  • EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Graduate or GED, college coursework preferred.
  • Administrative, customer service and computer experience required.
  • Police administration experience preferred.
  • Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

ADA REQUIREMENTS

Physical Requirements \- Physical demand requirements are at levels for those of sedentary work. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of five to ten pounds; occasional bending, kneeling, stooping and reaching above shoulder level; manual dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs or body to operate office equipment; may involve extended periods of sitting at a keyboard.

Sensory Requirements \- Tasks require visual perception and discrimination including color and depth. Tasks require perception and discrimination of sound.
