About the Role
Are you an experienced paralegal or legal assistant who knows the ins and outs of traffic court, misdemeanor defense, and local court procedures in Maryland?
Ticket Takedown is a rapidly growing legal tech company modernizing traffic ticket defense nationwide. As we prepare to launch our services in Maryland, we need a highly resourceful, detail\-oriented legal professional to map out the exact operational procedures for every traffic court and county in the state.
This is a paid, one\-month tryout ($1,000 base). Your mission is to complete a comprehensive operational spreadsheet by researching and answering highly specific procedural questions for every jurisdiction.
Performance Bonus: If you complete the research project accurately and comprehensively within two (2\) weeks of your start date, you will receive an additional $500 bonus, bringing your total compensation to $1,500\. Payment for this contract occurs on the third Friday after your employment start date.
Long Term Goal: If you successfully deliver accurate, comprehensive data this month, our goal is to retain you as a permanent, full\-time member of the Ticket Takedown team to help manage and lead operations for our launch in your state.
What You Will Do
Working independently and virtually, you will leverage your experience, research skills, and professional network to uncover the "unwritten rules" of local courts.
Your responsibilities include:
- Calling Court Clerks \& Administrators: Tracking down exact filing methods, deadlines, and local forms (e.g., Notices of Appearance, Motions to Continue).
- Contacting Prosecutors' Offices: Determining the best contact methods for ADAs/Prosecutors and understanding their standard reduction offers (e.g., Improper Equipment, Deferred Prosecution).
- Networking with Local Attorneys: Speaking with practicing traffic attorneys to discover local quirks, "lounge hours," and disposition schedules.
- Documenting Compliance Rules: Identifying strict payment deadlines, driving school requirements, and procedures for recalling warrants or resetting "Called \& Failed" cases.
- Data Entry: Accurately inputting all findings into our comprehensive operational spreadsheet.
- Experience: 3\+ years of experience as a Paralegal, Legal Assistant, or Legal Secretary handling traffic matters or misdemeanor defense specifically in Maryland.
- Resourcefulness: You are comfortable picking up the phone, navigating court phone trees, and politely but persistently asking questions until you get a clear answer.
- Attention to Detail: You understand that missing a 5:00 PM payment deadline or filing a document a day late can ruin a case.
- Self\-Starter: You excel in a remote environment, can manage your own time effectively, and deliver results without micromanagement.
- Tech\-Savvy: Proficient in using spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets) and comfortable learning new legal technology platforms.
- 100% Remote Work: Work from anywhere with a flexible schedule—we care about results, not hours logged.
- Clear Path to Permanent Employment: This isn't just a gig; it's the first step toward a long\-term career helping us build and run our operations in your state.
- Innovative Environment: Be part of a forward\-thinking legal tech company that is changing the industry.
- How many years of experience do you have working as a paralegal or legal assistant on traffic or misdemeanor cases?
- This role starts as a 1\-month contract at $1,000/month with the opportunity to transition to a permanent position. Are you interested in full time employment after completion of this contract?
- Are you available to start within the next 7 days?
