- Answer and triage phone calls and messages from patients, referring physicians, and dental providers.
- Serve as referral and authorization coordination and/or scheduler.
- Clearly explain procedures, billing codes, and insurance\-related information to patients and staff.
- Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, adjusting schedules based on provider availability.
- Enter procedure codes into scheduling systems to determine patient financial responsibility.
- Collect patient payments in accordance with established guidelines.
- Perform charge entry and reconcile daily cash collections per clinic standards.
- Maintain accurate patient records, including insurance details and billing information.
- Obtain and verify insurance authorizations and documentation following payer guidelines.
- Cover front desk responsibilities as needed, including during staff absences or extended hours.
- Mentor and train new staff; assist with onboarding and ongoing development.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and improve standard operating procedures.
- Generate and manage weekly and monthly reports.
- Perform additional administrative duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or GED required
- 3 \- 4 years of relevant healthcare experience, preferably in a dental setting
- Knowledge of basic dental and medical terminology
- Demonstrated experience managing complex scheduling in a fast\-paced environment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team setting
- Strong communication skills, including active listening, written, verbal, and computer proficiency
- Proven customer service skills with professional telephone etiquette
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strict patient confidentiality
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and remain effective in a high\-volume environment with frequent interruptions
- Experience with automated dental or medical billing systems preferred

Additional Information
We are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment for everyone. As part of the onboarding process, all candidates are required to submit their immunization records to Occupational Health Services (OHS) prior to their appointment start date to verify their immunization status. The process includes completing a two\-step TB test for all new hires and providing proof of Hepatitis B immunization for clinic\-facing roles. Additional immunizations may be necessary based on public health guidance or specific job responsibilities.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U\-M and the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
