Assistant Director for Engagement and Student Success
Essential Duties \& Responsibilities
- Provides operational oversight for administrative systems and policies associated with the operation and management of student clubs and organizations
- Provides direction for the recognition process, advisor training, club advising and support services, marketing, communications, resources, and programming
- Partners with university and community stakeholders to plan and implement events and initiatives that support student recruitment and engagement in clubs and organizations
- Collaborates with department leadership in short\- and long\-term strategic planning to ensure healthy engagement, student retention and well\-being across campus populations, and promote an inclusive and diverse university community
- Hires, trains and supervises graduate students, student supervisors, and student staff to support the successful operation of club and organization activities
- Maintains oversight of event planning and risk management to ensure student club/organization compliance with the student code of conduct and all other university policies
- Other duties as assigned

- Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of constituencies within and outside of the university setting
- Skill in planning, organizing, coordinating, and performing work in complex situations with competing priorities
- Ability to design, implement, and evaluate programming related to the student experience
- Ability to understand, review, and interpret legal and risk management policies, compliance expectations, and university guidelines and procedures
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 3 years of relevant experience
- Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered

The Student Engagement Specialist II advances first\-generation student success through academic coaching, programming, and coordinated academic support. This role carries a substantial coaching caseload, working closely with first\-generation students to assess needs, monitor academic progress, and strengthen resource awareness, leadership capacity, and long\-term planning. Academic coaching is developmental and structured to gradually foster independence, self\-advocacy, and sustained academic momentum.
In addition to direct student support, the Specialist assists in the design, coordination, and supervision of engagement\-driven programming that strengthens retention and student belonging. This includes maintaining strong campus partnerships, collaborating across departments, and ensuring programs are detail\-oriented, well\-executed, and aligned with institutional student success priorities. The role uses student engagement and success data to inform outreach strategies and targeted interventions. The Specialist also supports implementation of the Summer Experience, including delivery of student success workshops and structured transition programming that prepares students for a strong academic start and continued persistence.
