*Duties:
- The Accountant III performs advanced professional accounting work in support of the City's financial operations. This position applies established accounting principles and governmental accounting standards to analyze financial information, maintain financial records, prepare financial schedules and reports, and perform bank and account reconciliations. The Accountant III helps ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data while supporting departmental financial activities, audit preparation, and reporting requirements. Maintain, monitor, and verify the accuracy of financial schedules and supporting documentation. Prepare, compile, and analyze financial information for internal use, management review, and regulatory reporting. Collect, review, and analyze financial data from source documents used for accounting records, including initial entries, control accounts, and financial reports. Perform account reconciliations, including monthly bank statement reconciliations, to ensure accuracy and proper recording of transactions. Review departmental financial information and accounts for completeness and accuracy and prepare correcting or adjusting journal entries when necessary. Analyze and evaluate accounting discrepancies and financial reporting issues and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Assist with and complete special financial or accounting projects as assigned by management. Review, develop, analyze, and improve accounting procedures to promote efficiency, consistency, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and City policies. Communicate and coordinate with other City departments and personnel regarding financial records, accounting procedures, and reporting requirements. Provide assistance in the preparation and coordination of the City's annual financial audit, including compiling documentation and responding to auditor requests. Review and verify budgetary information and process budget transfer requests in accordance with City policies and procedures. Prepare and complete various monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and reconciliations. Perform a wide range of related accounting and administrative tasks including reviewing service documents for accounting purposes, maintaining ledgers, recording accounting entries, assisting in budget preparation activities, supporting rate\-setting processes, and interacting with vendors and external partners. Research and resolve discrepancies in expenditures and financial records and ensure appropriate corrections are made. Provide administrative and clerical support to the Assistant Controller as needed, including preparation of financial documentation and reports. Maintain organized financial records and documentation in accordance with recordkeeping requirements and audit standards. Adhere to the assigned work schedule and comply with all City policies related to timekeeping, attendance, and workplace conduct. Maintain all required licenses, certifications, clearances, and qualifications necessary to perform the duties of the position. Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Finance Department and City operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline and one (1\) to four (4\) years of related experience and/or training. Valid Texas driver's license. PREFERRED: At least one year of experience in a governmental accounting setting
