POSITION SUMMARY:
The staff accountant will prepare journal entries, assist with monthly and year\-end closings, perform bank reconciliations, fixed asset and property insurance maintenance, and general ledger reconciliations. This position reports to the Senior Accountant and will be responsible for many aspects of general ledger accounting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1\. Reconciles balance sheet accounts monthly in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP).
2\. Assists with reconciliation of operating, payroll, and field office bank accounts monthly, assuring that appropriate adjustments for earned interest, bank charges, fund transfers, AR payment receipts, and returned payments are entered.
3\. Assists with AP vendor payment process by preparing ACH payment file for each pay run and managing outstanding checks with bank voids and appropriate accounting entries.
4\. Ensures all journal entries related to areas of responsibility are complete prior to monthly close, adhering to all established timelines and procedures.
5\. Manages Non\-Federal Match (In\-Kind) records, including receiving, processing, and accounting system entries, as well as coordination of corrections with and training of program teams. Ensures compliance with Telamon procedures and Federal requirements throughout all stages.
6\. Maintains/monitors the prepaid expense schedule and records/updates all prepaid accounts monthly.
7\. Manages purchasing card distribution and platform access for all Telamon programs and locations.
8\. Maintains/updates property records based on purchases, dispositions and other transactions, including processing monthly depreciation in the accounting system, as appropriate.
9\. Takes the lead on conducting annual property inventory across all locations.
10\. Prepares property\-related tax reports, reviews NC sales tax general ledger accounts, and maintains/updates other compliance\-related certifications and filings as required.
11\. Primary liaison to insurance company. Provides renewal and other information as needed to insurance carrier or agents.
12\. Ensures proper account allocation of all insurance payments and refunds.
13\. Reconciles (with state office personnel) proper insurance coverage for property and vehicles.
14\. Assists with auditing field offices or centers as requested.
15\. Prepares requisitions and Purchase Orders as necessary for corporate acquisitions in compliance with procurement guidelines and record retention policies.
16\. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no direct supervisory duties but is expected to train or explain work procedures to others.
ROLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required.
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience required.
- Strong analytical and problem\-solving skills
- Mathematical reasoning and attention to detail
- Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency, particularly Excel
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to interpret and apply financial data and policies
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting.
- Subject to long periods of sitting and exposure to computer screen.
- Occasional light lifting.
- Occasional travel, including overnight as needed.
- All employees are subject to both a pre\-hire and an annual background check. Specific rules by Area of Focus will indicate whether a state or federal fingerprint background check (or both) is required and the frequency. A fingerprint background check may suffice for a regular background check. Additional background checks may be required such as the Child Abuse and Neglect State Registry, and the Sex Offender Registry.
- Telamon Corporation / TRC employees that are required to drive a personal vehicle for work\-related duties are to meet the auto insurance liability requirement. The minimum limits required are $100,000 each person bodily injury, $300,000 each accident bodily injury and $50,000 property damage. The insurance liability requirement covers use of an employee’s personal vehicle.
