Job Description Summary
Data Migration is a technical expert responsible for leading and executing complex data migration initiatives from legacy and on‑premise platforms to modern enterprise cloud based data platforms. This role owns end‑to‑end migration design and delivery, ensures data integrity and quality throughout the migration lifecycle, and acts as a subject‑matter expert within data engineering, and partners closely with business, analytics, and technology stakeholders to enable high‑quality, trusted data for downstream consumption
Depth \& Scope:
- Design and implement end‑to‑end data migration solutions, including source system analysis, target‑state mapping, transformation logic, and reconciliation strategies
- Lead the extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL/ELT) of data from legacy systems into cloud based data platforms while minimizing business disruption.
- Perform data profiling, data quality assessment, and remediation planning to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of migrated data
- Define and execute migration validation, reconciliation, and sign‑off processes, including row counts, control totals, and exception handling.
- Collaborate with business, architecture, analytics, and governance teams to translate business rules into migration logic and target‑state data models.
- Act as a technical lead or work‑stream lead for migration initiatives, providing guidance, code reviews, and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Support legacy system decommissioning by ensuring downstream dependencies are identified and data is fully migrated and validated.
- Lead the ingestion, transformation, and integration of data from multiple upstream systems into enterprise data platforms.
- Apply data engineering frameworks, patterns, and best practices to ensure performance, scalability, and reliability of solutions.
- Perform data profiling, data quality analysis, and metadata management to support trusted and well‑governed datasets.
- Expert knowledge of data engineering frameworks, technologies, tools, processes, patterns, and procedures, including how they impact and integrate with other technological areas such as Architecture or Infrastructure
- Performs highly complex technical tasks independently
- Degree, Postgraduate Degree, or Technical Certificate in Data Management or related discipline (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience
- Graduate Degree preferred
- 10\+ years of relevant experience
- Strong hands‑on experience with data engineering tools, technologies, and platforms (batch and streaming).
- Strong hands‑on experience with data migration frameworks, tools, and patterns across batch and near‑real‑time processing
- Advanced proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language used in data engineering (e.g., Python, Java, Scala)
- Deep understanding of data modeling, data lineage, and data lifecycle management, particularly in migration contexts.
- Experience implementing data quality, lineage, and metadata management in cloud environments
- Knowledge of Data Lakehouse, Data Bricks, Azure, Spark, Hadoop, Kafka is added advantage.
- Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to design solutions for complex data challenges.
- Solid understanding of data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, and data lifecycle management.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Role generally supports a significant business area, product group, Enterprise Platform, Service or Capability under a Segment CIO or technology functional area.
- Sets work direction at an operational level, works autonomously in the management of the unit and collaborates with other business or technology leaders to establish and execute on common goals with a medium to longer term business perspective
- Expert knowledge of the business and bank technology standards (e.g., infrastructure, architecture, processes, applications) from a strategic perspective and managing/ directing teams and projects
- Sound knowledge of external competition, emerging, industry and/or market trends in relation to own business
- Integrator role that oversees various technology functions / resources to deliver business technical solutions or shared service
- Oversees a sizable and varied team of technology professionals (e.g., up to 50\+ consisting of Application Developers, Solutions Designers, Business Systems Analysts, Specialists, and/or Project Managers) in the end to end delivery of complex projects, system enhancements / applications and/or application or service management
- Directs/manages large\-scale applications/ projects across multiple product lines/ businesses, involving significant scope and complexity
- Understands strategic direction (including financials) and champions alliances to benefit the Bank and/or department; advocates for operational improvements to enhance the divisions value to the organization
- Undergraduate degree or Technical Certificate.
