Summary:
Under the general direction and supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, the PRN Advanced Practice Provider (APP) provides a full scope of outpatient primary care services consistent with the Advanced Practice Provider Scope of Practice permitted by the State of Maryland and/or West Virginia. The PRN APP functions as an integral member of the provider team at Mountain Laurel Medical Center (MLMC), supporting clinic coverage needs while delivering high\-quality, patient\-centered care aligned with MLMC’s mission, strategic goals, and core values.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Care \& Patient Services
- Provide a full range of outpatient primary care services, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
- Manage patient care needs during scheduled PRN shifts and provide continuity of care through appropriate follow\-up and referrals.
- Order, interpret, and document diagnostic tests, laboratory results, and imaging; prescribe medications and therapies within scope of practice.
- Coordinate referrals to specialty and external services as appropriate.
- Address patient phone messages, diagnostic results, and care coordination tasks through the electronic medical record (EMR) in a timely manner.
- Complete all patient care documentation accurately and within MLMC\-defined timeframes, including chart completion prior to encounter locking.
- Comply with MLMC clinical policies, procedures, and established standards of medical care to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Participate in peer review, quality improvement initiatives, and performance measurement activities.
- Support and participate in MLMC programs and contractual initiatives such as Accountable Care Organizations (ACO), Patient\-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) activities, payer value\-based contracts, and grant\-funded projects.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable federal, state, and payer regulations.
- Work effectively and respectfully with the Chief Medical Officer, executive leadership, providers, and support staff in a team\-based care environment.
- Communicate timely and professionally via email, telephone, EMR, and in\-person interactions to support coordinated, patient\-centered care.
- Attend provider meetings, town halls, and committee meetings as required (excused when on approved leave).
- Accept committee, team, or special project responsibilities as assigned by the CMO or senior leadership.
- Participate with MLMC staff in outreach efforts such as health fairs, school\-based clinics, educational programs, and community health initiatives.
- Promote MLMC services to patients, the medical community, and community stakeholders.
- Assist MLMC leadership, when appropriate, in identifying and supporting grant and funding opportunities and carrying out related program objectives.
- Maintain active PRN status by working a minimum of six (6\) shifts per quarter.
- Provide availability in advance and accept assignments based on clinic coverage needs, including vacancies, planned leave, or staffing surges.
- Be available to work at any MLMC clinic location as operational needs require.
- Failure to meet minimum shift requirements for two (2\) consecutive quarters without prior approval may result in inactive or terminated PRN status.
- Complete all required onboarding, orientation, and competency training prior to independent clinical practice.
- Participate in annual or periodic competency validation, EMR updates, compliance education, and quality improvement activities.
- Attend required provider education sessions and meetings (in person or virtually, as designated).
- Provide excellent patient\-centered customer service with compassion, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.

- Must be duly licensed to practice in the State of Maryland as an APP. A minimum of two (2\) years experience in direct provision of primary care services is preferred. Additional experience is very desirable, particularly in the setting of a community health care center.
- Well\-developed interpersonal skills as they relate to fellow MLMC staff and patients in particular and the local medical community and public in general.
- Must be, or able to be certified in BLS. Certification in ACLS, ATLS and PALS is encouraged.
- Must be a graduate of a recognized Masters\-level Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant program.
- Minimum of two (2\) years of clinical experience in outpatient primary care within the past four (4\) years.
- Demonstrated competency in primary care assessment, diagnosis, treatment, care management, and documentation.
- Community health center or underserved population experience preferred.
- Successful completion of all credentialing and privileging requirements prior to beginning clinical practice.
- Maintenance of good standing with licensing boards, credentialing bodies, and payer networks at all times.
- Knowledge of basic computer applications and ability to learn and use EMR systems.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and exercise sound clinical judgment.
- Mathematical accuracy related to clinical calculations and documentation.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, flexibility, and ability to work effectively in a team\-based environment.

The APP shall be an experienced provider of primary care medical services. In addition, he/she must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the administrative aspects of clinic operations and have a thorough grasp of the many and varied collaborative relationships necessary to maintain effective continuity of care for all MLMC patients. The successful candidate must have the inter\-personnel skills to establish and maintain effective relationships with professionals and patients at all levels and to assist the Chief Medical Officer in liaison with local, state and federal agencies when appropriate. The work environment is a typical medical practice clinic that requires highly competent medical skills and the physical and mental ability to meet the needs of patients in both the outpatient and in\-patient setting. The position of APP may be required to engage in some local, state or out\-of\-state travel.
