Duke Gardens is seeking a Digital Marketing Specialist who is excited to help tell the story of one of Duke University’s most beloved and visited destinations. In this role, you’ll create digital experiences that inspire, inform, and connect—whether through compelling social media, engaging newsletters, video storytelling, or dynamic website content.
You’ll collaborate across departments to highlight Duke Gardens’ mission, programs, and beauty. Every day brings something new: filming in the Gardens, crafting content for social platforms, developing digital materials for visitors, or analyzing data to understand audience engagement. Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, media, marketing, or a related field.
- One year of experience in marketing, advertising, media, promotions, graphic arts, public relations, sales, or related fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience using Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
- Experience with content scheduling/management platforms such as Later or Airtable.
- Experience with social listening.
- Experience with WordPress and website content management.
- Experience with video editing software and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and collaborate across diverse teams.
- Ability to develop digital materials for on‑site visitor experiences.
- Ability to track and analyze digital engagement metrics using various platforms.
- Ability to support digital asset (photo/video) organization.
- Develop and implement digital marketing plans and communications for Duke Gardens.
- Lead the creation of audio, video, and written content that promotes the Gardens’ mission, priorities, and services.
- Develop and execute social media strategies for Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, and YouTube.
- Create, curate, and publish original content—graphics, videos, audio, animations, and more—with colleagues across departments.
- Maintain social media guidelines and brand standards to ensure consistency.
- Track and analyze social performance metrics and contribute to analytics reporting.
- Maintain calendars of recognitions, events, and storytelling opportunities, and support campaign planning.
- Contribute to e‑newsletter content creation and curation.
- Build and maintain website content in partnership with colleagues.
- Create and manage digital materials for on‑site visitor experiences, including lobby displays.
- Assist with digital asset organization and research opportunities for new digital tools.
- Prepare reports analyzing trends and outcomes, providing recommendations.
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives led by the Director of Marketing \& Communications.

Education
Work requires communications, analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
Experience
Work requires one year experience in marketing, advertising, media, promotions, graphic arts, public relations, sales, or other related background to acquire skills necessary to plan, develop and implement marketing strategies in one or more specialty areas. Anticipated Pay Range: Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $44,766\.00 to USD $71,706\.00\.
