The Dean of Students shall assist the JVS administrative team directly under the Superintendent's supervision. It is his or her duty to implement an educational program aligned with the school's philosophy and the policies established by the Jefferson County Joint Vocational School District Board of Education.This position serves as a member of the administrative team and supports the school in maintaining a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
The role combines responsibilities traditionally associated with an assistant principal and guidance counselor. The Dean of Students assists with student discipline, attendance, counseling services, testing coordination, and student support programs while helping students succeed in both their academic and career\-technical programs.Essential ResponsibilitiesStudent Discipline and School Climate Assist in maintaining a safe and respectful school environment. Investigate discipline issues and implement appropriate interventions consistent with Board policy and the student code of conduct. Work with staff, students, and parents to address behavior concerns and promote positive student conduct.
Supervise students in hallways, common areas, and school events as needed.Student Support and Counseling Provide guidance and support to students regarding academic, personal, and career planning. Assist students experiencing academic, attendance, or behavioral challenges. Work with teachers and administrators to develop intervention plans for students in need of additional support. Maintain communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.Attendance Oversight Monitor student attendance and identify patterns of absenteeism or truancy.
Work with families and partner school districts to address attendance concerns. Ensure compliance with Ohio attendance laws and district procedures.Testing and Assessment Coordinate schoolwide testing programs, including proficiency testing, WorkKeys, and other required assessments. Ensure proper administration, documentation, and reporting of testing programs. Assist in maintaining accurate student records related to testing and academic progress.Career\-Technical Student Support Work closely with career\-technical instructors to support student success in both academic and lab environments.
Assist with student placement, scheduling support, and program transitions when needed. Support career readiness efforts, including credential attainment and student follow\-up.Recruitment and Partner School Relations Assist with the recruitment of students from partner school districts to attend Jefferson County JVS. Maintain positive working relationships with counselors and administrators in associate school districts. Participate in recruitment activities, career fairs, and student outreach events.Data, Records, and Student Programs Assist with graduate follow\-up studies and alumni outreach.
Support student organizations and leadership programs. Maintain accurate student records and assist with reporting requirements.Leadership and Collaboration Serve as a member of the administrative leadership team. Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and staff to support student success. Assist with school safety procedures and emergency planning.
