The Medical Consult Manager Supervisor will be responsible for all administrative and quality assurance responsibilities at the Virtual Medical Operations Center Consult Program and employees. Will serve as the point of contact to the Operational Virtual Health Program Manager, Director, and VMC\-SA for all activities and performance.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in meetings, professional staff conferences, and other appropriate professional activities such as, but not limited to the following: Quality Improvement meetings, professional staff meetings, Department meetings, and others required by applicable regulations, MTF guidance, or as directed by the Director, VMC\-SA or his/her designated representative.
  • Supervise the performance of the VMOC Consult Managers daily, including scheduling of work shifts.
  • Serve as the single point of contact to the Operational Virtual Health Program Manager and Director, VMC\-SA for the activities and performance of the VMOC Consult Managers including on\-boarding, training, and quality control.
  • Receive rapid intake of clinical consult support requests via phone, voice over internet.
  • protocol, custom web form, or other request modality deemed necessary by the Government and route promptly and appropriately.
  • Facilitate the rapid transfer of relevant clinical and operational information from the requester to the specialty provider.
  • Understand the originating site operational limitations and military operational environmental factors,
  • Execute tasks expediently despite limited or ambiguous information.
  • Assist requester with identifying needs so that requests are properly routed within appropriate time frame.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Consult with other individuals and organizations to include other hospital services.
  • Perform data entry and database maintenance and manipulation.
  • Recognize potential problems and assists in the resolution of problems to ensure continuous project operation.
  • Apply critical thinking when operationally appropriate to assist with patient triage and evaluation to recommend appropriate clinical resources readily available in the Military health system.
  • Responsible for collecting, maintaining, and tracking referrals using an automated External Referral Access database.
  • Keep abreast of policy changes, current health care information and maintains pertinent records and files.
  • Provide essential office automation support and production. Uses knowledge of the capabilities, operating characteristics, and advanced functions of a variety of different software types to improve the efficiency and/or effectiveness of office operations.
  • Maintain electronic and paper files of information for later retrieval as appropriate.
  • Identify problems and shortages of specialty care to the supervisor.
  • Assist the supervisor with preparing reports, monthly statistical data, identifying trends, and review process for management.
  • Collect and integrate data from various types of software, to include CHCS, AHLTA, MHS Genesis, and MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Understand emergency medicine, anatomy and physiology, and military medicine clinical and operational terminology, abbreviations, and jargon.
  • Address requester needs and routes to correct specialty provider within appropriate time frame.
  • Supervise 9\-12 Medical Consult Managers
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Associate degree, preferred.
  • Graduate from a medical assistant training program accredited by Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) of the American Medical Technologists or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Minimum one (1\) year of experience as a Medical Professional after graduation OR
  • Minimum five (5\) years clinical experience in a hospital, urgent, or emergency care setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Prior military medical experience preferred. (US Military combat experience as an Army Medic, Navy Corpsman, or Air Force Medical Technician)
  • Computer Skills, and multiple computer technology platforms proficiency
  • Ability to supervise and delegate responsibilities effectively.
  • Ability to operate under intense pressure in a combat/real\-time medical emergency.
  • Ability to multi\-task in a fast\-paced environment

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
