JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Education Director
REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
SALARY: range $130,000\-$145,000 Individual 12 month contract
Terms of Contract: 4 months, pro\-rated March\-June 2026, renew FY27 (July 1, 2026\-June 30, 2027\)
Introduction
The Waltham Public Schools will hire a Director of Early Childhood Education. The Director will serve
as the strategic architect and lead advocacy for the district’s youngest learners. This executive role
demands a balance of administrative oversight and pedagogical leadership, as the director is responsible
for ensuring that all preschool initiatives align with state standards while remaining developmentally
appropriate. The director will manage budget, oversee recruitment of staff and students, supervise
specialized staff, and facilitate professional development to ensure high\-quality instructional practices
across all sites. Beyond the classroom, they act as a vital bridge between the district and the community,
collaborating with families and external agencies to ensure equitable access to early intervention services
and a seamless transition into the K\-12 system. The role requires the ability to open a new full day
pre\-school program at Waltham High School that will work in partnership with Early Child Care Chapter
74 programming for high school students. The director will oversee the initial planning, implementation
and evaluation of PreK classrooms at Waltham High School. The director will be responsible for the
hiring and evaluation of all staffing assigned to these classrooms and will also oversee the recruitment and
enrollment of students. The director will provide district\-wide support to all PreK programs. The director
will be under the direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. The
preK program is new to Waltham High School and the successful candidate will begin in March 2026 and
begin planning for implementation of 2 preK classrooms for the 2026\-2027 school year.

Qualifications/Skills/Abilities of the Ideal Candidate Include:
? MA DESE Licensed Elementary Administrator\- Supervisor/Director or Assistant
Principal/Principal
? 5 years experience as a building principal/ administrator/director
? Strong knowledge base of Early Childhood Education, Evaluation, and Curriculum
? Experience working in a diverse school community
Essential Duties:
? Coordinate the planning, development, and implementation of the comprehensive early childhood
programs (PreK), ensuring alignment with state frameworks and best practices
? Recruit, hire and oversee staff for pre\-K program at Waltham High School
? Develop and maintain a strong working partnership with the Director of Career and Technical
Education (CTE) to create and oversee a high\-quality pathway for CTE students within the Early
Education and Care Program
? Design and implement curriculum and instructional strategies appropriate for diverse learners in
WPS early childhood settings
? Develop recruitment plan for pre\-K students for all Waltham Public Schools programs
? Work in partnership with Parent Information Center in the recruitment of students for the Prek
classrooms
? Develop transition to Kindergarten events for the district
? Conduct in person and virtual information sessions for caregivers
? Work with building principals around pre\-K programming
? Consult with elementary building principals and kindergarten teachers around student transitions
? Provide financial oversight and financial reporting for the pre\-K programs
? Collaborate with district administrators and other preK professionals around curriculum and
instruction
? Assure that central office initiatives, concerns and procedures are communicated regularly at staff
meetings
? Initial contact person for all caregivers and community preschools regarding Waltham Public
Schools; Early Childhood education
? Work in collaboration with the office of Student Supports
? Develop new programs as data projections reveal specific needs areas
? Participate in training, workshops, and conferences to enhance professional skills
? Additional tasks assigned by the Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent
Required Qualifications:
? A Master’s Degree in Education or in content area.
? Valid Massachusetts State Certification (DESE License) as Supervisor/Director or Assistant
Principal/Principal prek\-6
? At least five (5\) years experience in the field of public education, including experience in
administration and teaching at the primary level
Preferred Qualifications:
? Ability to converse fluently in a language other than English
