Speech Language Pathologist Assistant

Description:

The role of the SLPA is to support the implementation of the Individual Education Program for students with disabilities throughout the school environment, including general education and special education settings. The SLPA supports the clinical services provided by the speech and language pathologists. The SLPA is responsible for implementing intervention and therapy regarding students' pre\-language and language skills, oral \-motor control for speech production, vocalization and use of assistive technology devices for communication under the direction of the Speech and Language Pathologist..

Responsibilities:

  • Under the supervision of the Speech and Language Pathologist, informally screen students for speech, voice, hearing, and language impairments.
  • Provide individual therapy, classroom groups, small groups, and/or co\-treatment according to the recommendations of the supervising therapist and educational plan.
  • Provide direct services documented on the Individualized Education Programs/504 Plans to students eligible for speech/language therapy services.
  • Collect data and provide quantitative information regarding a students' progress in a variety of academic areas including but not limited to articulation, speech intelligibility, oral fluency, social communication skills, voice disorders, hearing, and oral language based on clinical observations.
  • Collect data and provide quantitative information to assist and support in the Response to Intervention (RtI) model.
  • Under the supervision of the Speech/Language Pathologist provide information for or support appropriate goals, accommodations, and recommendations.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings to develop Individual Education Plans, 504 plans, and/or RtI models.
  • Designs, constructs, and/or modifies special equipment or technologies or develops communication aids to meet the communication needs of the student, student's family, and/or teacher(s).
  • Maintains data as well as clinical and administrative records in accordance with State guidelines and school policies.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents that will assist in the development of routine academic tasks as part of daily service delivery.
  • Provide the data or observation information to assist in formulating goals and objectives for future IEPs/504 plans/RtI process and for scheduled progress reporting.
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly school and insurance (e.g., Medicaid) and/or school required documentation notes of the student's progress on the schedule and review prior to submission with the SLP.
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities to meet the guidelines for SLPA certification.
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as preparing materials and scheduling activities, as directed by the SLP.
  • Perform other job\-related tasks or duties at the discretion of the Director of Pupil Services.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to: stand, walk, use hands, talk and hear. The employee may be required to reach with hands and arms above their head or reach forward, sit, squat, stoop or kneel. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

  • The SLPA may travel to the various schools within the district.
  • The SLPA will be required to have all material available when needed.
  • The SLPA will be required to participate in remote instruction as required by the district and under the direction of the supervising SLP
  • Additional Information:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Disorders or related field.
  • Licensed by Massachusetts Board of Registration in Allied Health Professionals as a Speech\-Language Pathology Assistant
  • Experience working in a school setting providing direct Speech\-Language Therapy Services with students preschool through grade 12\.
  • Ability to work well with licensed Speech/Language Pathologists, staff, students, administrators, and parents.

Starting Salary: $45,000
