At Benton Habitat for Humanity (BHFH) we are part of a global, nonprofit housing organization that works to eliminate substandard housing locally and worldwide and provide affordable homeownership opportunities for low\-income households. We do this through constructing, rehabilitating and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions.
ReStores are re\-sale stores whose purpose is to generate revenue, through the sale of donated building materials, furniture and appliances, to fund essential affiliate program costs. In addition, the ReStore facilitates recycling, minimizes landfill waste, provides low\-cost home improvement items, and increases Habitat’s visibility in our community.
By becoming a Volunteer Team Lead, you’ll join a collaborative, team\-based organization. You will be responsible for customer service and merchandising. It’s the perfect way to use your sales and customer service skills to directly help the members of our community looking for a hand up, not a hand out.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the ReStore Manager, Volunteer Team Lead functions as a lead person for donations intake acceptance, processing, stocking and merchandising. Leads and works collaboratively with volunteers to accomplish assigned goals. Engages in metal recycling processes to ensure all materials are properly broken down , sorted and recycled for maximum ROI.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES,
- Consistently identifies donated materials that can be resold or efficiently recycled
- Ensures that all materials slated for resale are cleaned and priced before taken to resale areas
- Ensures that all materials ready for resale are placed in the proper resale areas, items to be tested are routed to testing areas, and materials to be recycled are routed to the recycle sorting area.
- Maintains a safe, clear and clean workspace that is functional and organized
- Effectively and safely uses material handling tools \& equipment to process, receive, load, and move donated materials.
- Able to coordinate, lead and work with assigned volunteer staff in a productive \& professional manner
- Consistently provides required assistance training and support to volunteers, helping them to accomplish assigned tasks
- Response is consistently in a timely \& professional manner
- Requests are consistently brought to proper closure or referred to the appropriate individuals or entities.
- Interfaces and builds relationships/ partnerships with customers, donors, contractors and vendors
- Material breakdown, separation, sorting, containment, storage, recycling and training:
- Consistently breaks down and separates materials to be recycled into their basic components
- Accurately sorts separated materials into proper containers
- Continually monitors material containment area to avoid cross material contaminations and corrects problems when found
- Consistently teaches other team members and volunteers correct recycle break down, separation and sorting process
- Uses existing training tools and aids
- Willingly accepts special duties and/or projects such as yard maintenance and brings to full completion in accordance with established timelines.
- Willingness to train for and cover other posts such as cashier, forklift driver or sales associate
- Identifies performance improvement opportunities
- Participates in CPI initiatives and quality assurance activities in areas of responsibility

- Safely and competently operates forklift \-will train if necessary

- Willingness to learn to operate material handling equipment, including forklift and forklift certification.
- Adequate visual and hearing ability to read and perform material handling duties safely
- Able to lift, pull and turn a minimum of 50 lbs unassisted and over 100 lbs with assistance, bend, stretch and reach to accomplish duties.
- Manual dexterity adequate to perform skills and procedures to assure safe material handling.
- Superior customer service and conflict resolution skills.

This job operates in a warehouse with new and used furniture, household goods, and building supplies. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as cash register, computers and phones. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to frequently lift and move and/or load items over 50 pounds with a Team lift. The noise level in the work environment may range from quiet to moderate. Our store is open Tuesday\-Saturday 10am\-5pm. Employees are expected to be able to work during store hours and approximately 15 minutes before and after if required to open or close.
