The developer will work as part of an Agile software development team responsible for delivering reliable applications that integrate with complex educational data systems and cloud infrastructure. This role requires strong software engineering fundamentals combined with experience using modern AI\-assisted development tools to improve productivity while maintaining enterprise\-grade quality, security, and maintainability. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to critically create, evaluate, test, and refine AI\-generated code, ensuring all software meets professional engineering standards and organizational architecture and security guidelines.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, maintain, and deploy cloud\-hosted web applications used by school districts across Michigan.
  • Collaborate with team members in an Agile development environment to deliver new features and improvements.
  • Write clean, maintainable code using modern development practices and established design principles.
  • Use automated testing (unit, integration, and front\-end tests) to help ensure application reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to improving team development practices.
  • Use AI\-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot or similar) to support development workflows and productivity. Developers are expected to understand, review, and take ownership of all code introduced into production systems.
  • Monitor and address application issues, performance concerns, and defect reports through issue tracking systems.
  • Work with CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Create and maintain clear technical documentation when needed.
  • Technical Skills Preferred:

  • SOLID design principles and modern software architecture practices
  • React, Ember, Angular, or a comparable modern front\-end framework
  • C\# or other modern object\-oriented language (e.g., Java, TypeScript, Python)
  • Experience with AI\-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot or similar coding assistants
  • CI/CD platforms such as CircleCI, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or similar tools

  • 3\+ years of experience developing front\-end web applications
  • 1\+ year of experience working with CI/CD frameworks such as CircleCI, CodePipeline, or Jenkins
  • 1\+ year of experience working with AWS or a similar cloud platform

  • Committed to human\-centered design and development
  • Strong customer service mindset
  • Team\-oriented and collaborative
  • Demonstrates accountability and ownership of software quality
  • Development Approach:

MiCH IT views AI tools as productivity enhancers for experienced engineers, not replacements for software engineering discipline. Developers are expected to fully understand, review, and maintain all code introduced into production systems.
