We are seeking a passionate and mission\-driven Chief Financial Officer to help expand the impact of Shepherd’s House Ministries across all sites and advance this life\-changing work.
The CFO reports to the CEO and provides leadership and oversight of finance, risk management, and grant accounting for Shepherd’s House Ministries. This role directs the organization’s financial affairs, including preparation of financial reports and oversight of the annual operating budget and finance staff. The CFO establishes and achieves financial goals aligned with SHM’s mission and serves as a Christ\-centered ambassador within the organization and community.

- Provide strategic financial leadership aligned with SHM’s mission, ensuring organizational sustainability and stewardship.
- Lead the development and oversight of the Annual Operating Budget in partnership with the CEO and Directors.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership, Development, and Grant teams on proactive financial planning, forecasting, and revenue strategy.
- Deliver timely, accurate financial analysis, projections, and executive\-level reporting to the CEO and Board.
- Establish and monitor investment strategies and financial policies in coordination with the Finance Committee.
- Oversee organizational cash flow, forecasting, and long\-term financial health.
- Lead and develop the Finance Department, including hiring, supervision, performance management, and team development.
- Ensure strong internal controls, risk management practices, and regulatory compliance (local, state, and federal).
- Oversee annual audit processes and serve as primary liaison to external auditors and the Board Finance Committee.
- Develop, update, and enforce accounting policies and procedures in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit best practices.
- Represent SHM with financial institutions, auditors, public officials, and strategic partners.
- Oversee contracts, vendor relationships, financial systems, and operational processes to ensure accountability and efficiency.
- Compliance with SHM’s Employee Handbook and organizational policies.
- Attends all \-staff meetings and trainings
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Business, Finance, or Management (Master’s highly preferred)
- 7\+ years’ experience working in finance and business with increasing responsibility; previous experience with a Rescue Mission, non\-profit and/or urban ministry setting strongly desired.
- CPA highly desired
- 5\+ years of management/supervisory experience; previous executive leadership within Rescue Mission environment preferred
- Equivalent combination of experience and education accepted
- Ability to remain flexible and adapt well.
- Work well in a team environment and be able to accept input as well as supervisory guidance.
- Able and willing to interact with shelter guests in a compassionate and respectful manner.
- Knowledgeable and empathetic to the needs of the poor and suffering.
- Able to maintain a positive, professional, Christ\-like manner with all donors, staff, guests, and volunteers.

- Occasional lifting of office materials up to 20 lbs. (files, boxes of records, audit materials).
- Ability to move between office spaces, meeting rooms, and various ministry sites.
- Visual acuity sufficient to read financial reports, computer screens, and detailed documentation.
- Cognitive ability to perform complex financial analysis, strategic forecasting, and risk assessment.
