Summary:
Occupational Therapists provide pediatric, neurodiversity affirming occupational therapy services for clients of The Power of Speech, Inc. Occupational Therapy Assistants work under the supervision of an OT. A cornerstone of our practice is our neurodiversity affirming approach. We believe that individual brain differences in function and behavioral presentation (such as Autism and ADHD) are a part of the expected variation of the human population. Regardless of whether a brain is neurotypical or neurodivergent, all brains are healthy and worthy. We embrace and celebrate differences and focus on inclusion, accommodations, and support.
Employee Responsibilities:
- Provide occupational therapy services using a neurodiversity affirming approach.
- Respect the client’s unique communication styles and promote an inclusive approach to therapy.
- Develop treatment goals that are functional, individualized, based on strengths and respectful of differences.
- Actively work to understand the needs of the client and family when creating a treatment plan.
- Provide therapy that is flexible and responsive to the client’s needs and interests.
- Explore communication modalities that are preferred and tailored to the client (not pushing solely for speaking/oral communication).
- Collaborate with other members of the client’s team (e.g., therapists, teachers, etc.).
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must have an Occupational Therapist Registered (OTR) credential, in good standing from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), and a Massachusetts\-issued Occupational Therapist license, in good standing.
- Willingness to learn about and adhere to the company’s expectations for a neurodiversity affirming approach.
- Analytical and critical thinking skills necessary to select/recommend appropriate diagnostic tools, analyze results, adjust plans, and identify alternate solutions.
- Attention to detail (e.g. ability to maintain detailed and organized notes).
- Ability to effectively and inclusively communicate with neurotypical and neurodivergent individuals, as well as individuals of different backgrounds, styles, preferences, cultures, etc.
- Ability to actively listen to client needs and concerns in order to jointly determine an effective plan with the client.
- Ability to effectively communicate complicated concepts to an untrained audience and to ensure understanding.
- Ability to demonstrate empathy and compassion for the client and their concerns and challenges.

Work Environment
Based at The Power of Speech office in Marblehead, MA. Work environment includes standard office desk environment, play\-based children’s therapy settings, schools, homes, and community facilities/events. The Power of Speech will provide reasonable accommodations to enable the incumbent to perform the job, unless such accommodation would cause the company an undue hardship.
