- Conduct comprehensive field audits of employer's records, in adherence with Federally mandated Tax Performance System (TPS) requirements.
- Do fact gathering investigations of employers, to ensure that the unemployment tax provisions of the state law (Chapter 108 of the Wisconsin Statutes) are being complied with and the collection of taxes are conducted on an equitable basis.
- Educate the public as to their responsibilities and improving customer service through their contacts with employers and/or their representatives (generally via the audit process).
- Serve as the Bureau's first line of face\-to\-face contact with the public.

- + A bachelor's degree in accounting or auditing from an accredited post\-secondary college/university; OR a combination of coursework and work experience equivalent to a bachelors degree in accounting or auditing, that involved performing duties related to finance, accounting, auditing, or similar.
- + Experience working in a customer service role.
- + Experience analyzing data and problem solving.
- + Experience using Excel, QuickBooks, or a similar program(s) for accounting or auditing purposes.
- Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines.

The candidate selected for this position will have the option to work remotely for a majority of their schedule, with occasional requirements to report to their headquarter location in Menomonee Falls, sometimes on short notice. Remote work options are subject to change.

Salary Information
Starting salary is between $26\.50 – 28\.50 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, plus excellent benefits. In addition, candidates with a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) designation may be eligible for an additional $1\.00/hr. Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.
The classification title for this position is Auditor (schedule 07, range 04\). A 12\-month probationary period will be required for permanent positions. This position is not represented in a collective bargaining unit.

Job Details
Travel: this position requires occasional travel including some overnights.
Remote work: Employees with approved remote and hybrid\-remote work arrangements are generally expected to work within the state of Wisconsin. High\-speed internet access is required to meet the needs of remote work. Remote work options are subject to change.
Criminal histories: We consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state, and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. This position will have access to sensitive federal tax information and FBI fingerprinting will also be required.
Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I\-9 upon hire.
