Under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor , this position is responsible for patient care in the clinic or ambulatory care setting, along with scheduling of appointments (if appropriate), managing tasks for providers, submission of referrals, and back\-up reception, as needed. Medical Assistant/Ward Clerk position will perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep clinic operations running smoothly, such as the ability to access, understand, and process tasks and duties in the electronic medical records system. The MA Ward Clerk must have HEDIS and I\-Star knowledge and participation, and act under the supervision of the Clinic Supervisor. The MA Ward Clerk must maintain adherence to policies, procedures and regulations of the Company and participate in an interdisciplinary and inter\-facility approach to achieving the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Company. The MA Ward Clerk will interact with other departments, clinic personnel, and outside providers in a professional and friendly manner, to create and maintain a positive relationship with our internal and external customers.
- Greet patients courteously, with eye contact, and a smile.
- Exhibit proper telephone etiquette.
- Receive and process incoming calls. Able to handle multi\-line telephones.
- Schedule appointments in accordance with physician and/or department guidelines.
- Update patient information in NextGen.
- Be familiar with insurance contracts and unacceptable insurances, along with insurance benefits.
- Cancel/reschedule appointments according to physician schedule changes.
- Schedule referral appointments according to protocol.
- Ensure proper handling, administration, and documentation of all medication and vaccines as ordered by the provider.
- Anticipate, assist, and perform procedures ordered by the provider.
- Performs sterile technique setup and maintaining sterile field when necessary.
- Competence in procedures/services offered in the Company Clinic:
- Responsible for following the Standard/Universal Precautions by hand washing, using PPE, basic knowledge infection control and medical waste management for clinic setting.
- Responsible to “room” patients, record the intake notes, including vital signs and complete NextGen MA workflow.
- Responsible for managing the “tasks” that includes clearing tasks inbox daily, sending and receiving tasks.
- Work as back\-up reception.
- Maintain and manage NextMD message retrieval and responses.
- Knowledge of associated websites/applications for, such as:
- Handle complaints in a responsible and professional manner.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Assist with submission of referrals for the providers as appropriate, utilizing online process when applicable.
- Understand the referral process and how to advise patients.
- Access EZ Cap to verify referrals and update appointment.
- Able to create and send tasks through EHR.
- Take messages and answer them in a timely manner through EHR.
- Stay current on NextGen and EZ Net updates.
- Assist in assisting back\-office patients with any clerical needs or follow up instructions.
- Process all incoming correspondence ensuring the following are completed prior to giving the provider: must have patient's chart number, last visit, next visit date, refill requests, reports, results, paperwork, utilizing online process when applicable.
- Knowledge of patient forms: DMV, physical, handicap placard, disability, etc.
- Will act as the provider liaison for patients, will answer calls and do all you can to work with the provider to obtain an answer solution to their question.
- Obtain approved prescriptions for the administration in the department.
- Responsible for the data entry and management of vaccinations on the CAIR website.
- Administer medications as prescribed within scope of practice.
- Initiate/participate in Code White, Code Blue, and Code Red situations as they arise within scope of practice.
- Responsible for performing “nurse only” visits with appropriate documentation:
- Responsible for updating health maintenance on all preventative reports:
- Responsible for collecting information outlined by specific measure per q.HMO:
- Responsible to ensure all hospital notes have been retrieved prior to appointment for provider review on all EHR and HD's.
- Responsible for activating the Chain of Command if there are abnormal vital signs.
- Responsible for working with Pharmacist at Physician's Plaza Pharmacy on ensuring prescriptions are correct and medications are ordered.
- Responsible for working with referring providers to ensure prescriptions for patient medical administering is complete.
- Willing to work at any company location or department, depending on business/staffing needs (if driving for company then employee must provide current CDL and Auto Insurance).
- Due to your role within the organization, you may be monitored or recorded.

Requirements:
8\.1 High school diploma/certificate required.
8\.2 Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
8\.4 Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
8\.5 Current Venipuncture Certification.
8\.6 Knowledge of computers.
8\.7 Working knowledge of appointment scheduling preferred.
8\.8 One year\- experience in a physician's office or clinic preferred.
8\.9 Valid CA Driver's License and current vehicle insurance and clean driving record.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be reasonably between $26\.09 and $30\.69\. However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job\-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
If hired, employee will be in an “at\-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
