The Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center invites applications from qualified candidates to join our faculty in an open rank, full\-time, 12\-month non\-tenure track position. Faculty responsibilities include teaching, student advisement, university and professional service, overseeing the admissions process, with opportunities to participate in clinical practice. Faculty will be expected to disseminate scholarly work in accordance with professional and college guidelines. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience.

Establishes and implements a personal scholarly agenda; Serves on assigned committees and participates in university governance. Promotes departmental involvement and service within the community. Supports and helps plan collaborative and inter\-professional education and service activities among faculty and students within the university and local community.

EDUCATION: Clinical or post\-professional Doctoral Degree in Occupational Therapy or related field (OTD, DrOT, DSc, EdD, ScD, PhD).

EXPERIENCE: Three (3\) years of post\-licensure clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist. E xcellent communication, conflict management and problem\-solving skills. Strong leadership skills and a vision for excellence. University or clinical teaching experience in needed content areas. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

LICENSES: NBCOT certification as an Occupational Therapist. Licensed and eligible to practice occupational therapy in the State of Tennessee.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five or more years of post\-licensure clinical experience as an Occupational Therapist.
  • Previous teaching experience at the university level in the areas of mental health and pediatrics.
  • Experience supervising graduate students.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Defined research agenda with a history of peer\-reviewed publications
  • Evidence of leadership in a professional organization at a state or national level
  • Commitment to lifelong learning
  • Evidence of leadership or administration in clinical practice

THE DEPARTMENT OF OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

The mission of the Department of Occupational Therapy ( https://www.uthsc.edu/health\-professions/occupational\-therapy/ ) is to guide students in integrating academic knowledge, community engagement, and clinical experiences, with the goal of graduating outstanding practitioners who are committed to leadership and evidence\-based practice. UT Health Science Center program in Occupational Therapy prepares outstanding clinicians, to meet the state's workforce needs while maintaining a standard of academic excellence. The entry level Master's and OTD programs in Occupational Therapy have the unique opportunity to include health concerns of urban communities while providing cost\-effective healthcare education. The Department of Occupational Therapy has the only clinic in the Mid\-South providing occupational therapy services at no cost to uninsured or underinsured children, the UT Health Science Center Rachel Kay Stevens Therapy Center is strengthening the community by providing science\-driven, evidence\-based occupational therapy to support children with special needs and their families in fulfilling their potential for participation and engagement within the contexts of everyday living.

The Academic Fieldwork Coordinator will play an important role in preparing graduate\-level occupational therapy students to serve as clinic administrators, providing critical workplace experiences as they address the needs of young patients and their families. On\- and off\-site services are available for the graduate students in Occupational Therapy, including direct therapy, consultations with parents and teachers, training and coaching for parents, and workshops.

THE COLLEGE OF HEALTH PROFESSIONS

The College of Health Professions ( https://www.uthsc.edu/health\-professions/about/index.php ) serves as the administrative home for allied health programs offered through the Departments of Audiology and Speech Pathology, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The College also houses a research arm, the Division of Rehabilitation Sciences ( https://www.uthsc.edu/health\-professions/research/rehabilitation\-sciences.php ), and includes the Muscle Biology and Sarcopenia Laboratory, the Muscle and Neural Laboratory, the Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory, the Human Performance Clinical and Research Laboratory, and the Movement Science Laboratory.
