    This position will work 100% in person at our downtown Madison location (201 E. Washington Ave.).

    Our office is located near a wide variety of restaurants and food carts, live music and events, the farmer's market, B\-cycle rentals, lakefront parks, the Capital City bike path, and multiple bus routes.

    Position Summary

  • This position serves as the section chief of the Central Support Services within the Bureau of General Services. Work is performed with substantial independence and general supervision with direct supervision of the Central Support Services section staff working in the areas of mail processing, mail inserting, scanning services and GEF1 customer service inquiries.

    This position maintains working relationships with representatives with other state agencies, the U.S. Post Office and the Department of Administration (DOA) related to mail processing and printing, interprets federal, state and agency policies and procedures related to all aspects of mail processing, inserting operations and scanning services; and represents the Department in the development of statewide policies and procedures applicable to mail, scanning, Fleet management and GEF1 Customer Service. This position also acts as the Fleet Manager for the Department.

  • Starting pay is between $68,640 and $81,536 per year, depending on qualifications, plus an exemplary benefits package:

    The classification title for this position is Program Assistant Supervisor Advanced (schedule 81, range 04\). A 12\-month probationary period will be required.

    This position is considered exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.

    Pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan in effect at the time of appointment. Starting pay may vary for current state employees.

  • Travel: This position is in\-person and will be located in Madison. Some travel within the Madison area will be expected. Criminal histories: We also consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. Finalists for this position may be required to allow DWD to conduct a background check or other checks to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. For positions with access to sensitive federal tax information, FBI fingerprinting may also be required. Eligibility to work in United States: Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e. a US citizen or national or a lawful permanent resident) at the time of appointment. DWD does not sponsor visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. This is not a contract position. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant completing the I\-9 upon hire.

    You need to have the following experience:

  • + Working with mail programming specifications, including working with bulk mailing, state and federal regulations.
  • + Using mail processing and scanning services technology.
  • + Organizing, coordinating, and planning programs. For example, setting program priorities, continuity planning, developing policies/procedures, or leading any program operations.
  • Strong interpersonal, teambuilding, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Any of the following experience would be nice to have:

  • + Purchasing, overseeing expenditure activity, and/or managing a portfolio of assets.
  • + Managing fleet vehicles including tracking, maintenance, and leasing agreements and contracts.
  • + Serving in a supervisory role (particularly supervising other supervisors)
  • + Specific work in state/DWD mailroom, including with state procurement rules.
