Job purpose Owls’ Nest North Therapy Joint (ONN) Peer Support Specialist and Case Manager The purpose of this position is to provide quality Peer Support and Case Management through an anti\-oppression lens to individuals of the wider Portland area. At ONN, a small mental health clinic, we seek to provide quality care to those who historically do not have access and to offer excellent working conditions to those who provide that care. Peer Support Specialist and Case Manager uses personal lived experience to support individuals in recovery from mental health diagnoses, help them navigate community resources, and provide therapeutic interventions. Key duties include assisting with life skills and treatment plan support, maintaining client records, and collaborating with other professionals to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care. Providing coaching and emotional support for clients, individually and during support group sessions. Connecting clients with resources related to housing, employment and additional treatment. Helping clients manage appointments with mental health professionals. Duties and responsibilities Clinical Provide quality peer support and case management to a diverse set of clients receiving counseling with an internal mental health provider Coordinate client care with client providers as needed Report clinical issues to clinical staff and supervisor(s) and examine countertransference Provide referrals and community resources to clients Examine and apply anti\-oppression factors in clinical work Maintain professional ethical standards Advocate for clients within larger systems Run peer support and skill groups Administrative Perform administrative duties related to insurance contracts Document client progress, treatment plans, assessments diagnoses and outcomes Practice mandatory abuse reporting and HIPAA standards Maintain complete client records Screen potential clients Schedule and coordinate care directly with clients Manage a variable caseload Document eligibility requirements for sliding scale clients Assist uninsured clients in identifying and applying for appropriate health insurance Accurately report administrative, client and clinical contact hours Utilize various phone and computer technology Assist admin and clinical supervisors as needed on various projects Maintain OHA’s required reporting in their client database ROADS Assist PMHNP with scheduling medication management clients Monthly screening of clinical staff in various databases and license checks Professional Development Complete continuing education as required to maintain certification statuses Participate in clinical supervision as required by certifying board and state contracts Gain any needed skills to assist clients through formal and informal means Participate in formal and informal education around anti\-oppression and instersectionality issues Personal Qualities Ability to solve complex problems in a community setting Self\-reliant and independent, but able to ask for assistance when needed Reliable and organized Resilient and open to feedback Capacity to maneuver grey areas and adapt to contextual needs Flexible as clinic needs develop and change Communicative and able to resolve interpersonal conflict Qualifications Successful completion and certification as a QMHA and Peer Support Specialist. Must pass a criminal background check prior to hiring Bilingual preferred Experience and education on how issues of oppression and social justice impact client mental and relational health. Experience and ability to openly examine and discuss issues of privilege and power, as it relates to our clinical work and impact in our professional collaboration and community. Demonstrated willingness and ability to meaningfully collaborate with a clinical team on social justice and anti\-oppression issues. Knowledge of systemic factors impacting 2SLGBTQQi\+ people and people of non\-dominant cultural experiences. Familiarity and experience with concepts of intersectionality. Ability to manage a fair amount of paperwork to keep records up\-to\-date Willingness to take direction on both clinical and administrative issues Skilled at using technology for email, word processing and internet access. Easily adaptable to new technologies. Peer Support Specialist (PSS) competencies Lived experience: Must have personal experience with recovery from a mental illness or substance use disorder. Sharing experience: Can share their personal recovery journey to provide hope and support. Recovery skills: Help individuals set recovery goals and develop recovery plans. Crisis management: Assist with safety and crisis planning and de\-escalation. Advocacy: Support individuals in advocating for their needs. Resource connection: Link individuals with services, support groups, and community resources. Self\-awareness: Understand the importance of self\-care to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue. Professional conduct: Adhere to professional boundaries, ethics, and confidentiality. Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) competencies Clinical understanding: Understand the principles of mental health and substance use disorder recovery, and their relevance to measurable goals. Treatment planning: Be involved in the development and implementation of treatment and recovery plans. Shared decision\-making: Foster shared decision\-making between consumers, families, and providers. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with a care team, including other providers. Service delivery: Understand and assist with service delivery. Competencies for both PSS and QMHA Cultural and structural competence: Understand and respect the diverse backgrounds of individuals. Trauma\-informed care: Apply principles of trauma\-informed care. Crisis intervention: Have skills to manage crises and safety planning. Professional ethics: Maintain professional boundaries, including confidentiality. Group facilitation: Be able to facilitate groups if required. Working conditions This position requires some evening and, possibly, weekend hours. Weekly, four 6\-hour shifts in\-office, plus an additional 8 hours of virtual admin work. A successful candidate can expect to provide up to 20 hours a week of client contact. Physical requirements This position requires sitting with clients for extended periods of time and repetitive tasks (email, documentation, etc.). While we are providing telehealth services, sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer screen for the duration of a shift is required. Position may, at some point, include being in the community and assisting clients in various life tasks/skills.
