Position Summary The Maintenance/Handyman and Driver plays a dual role in maintaining a safe, functional, and clean physical environment across BCC facilities while ensuring the safe transportation of the children and young adults we serve. ### Education \& Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 1 to 3 years of related experience in general building maintenance, trade repairs (plumbing, carpentry, electrical), and commercial or passenger driving. ### ### Essential Duties \& Responsibilities Maintenance \& Handyman Responsibilities (BCC North School) Perform routine facility maintenance, minor repairs, and preventative care (e.g., drywall repair, painting, basic plumbing, basic electrical fix\-ups, door/lock repairs, and furniture assembly). Inspect facility premises, grounds, and equipment regularly to identify and address safety hazards, needed repairs, or maintenance needs. Assist in maintaining HVAC filters, lighting fixtures, plumbing systems, and facility hardware in working order. Respond promptly to facility work orders and emergency maintenance requests. Transport tools, supplies, hardware, and furniture between facilities as required. Maintain clean, organized work areas, tool storage, and supply inventories. Assist outside contractors and service technicians during facility repairs or major installations. Driving \& Transportation Responsibilities Transport children and young adults safely and efficiently in organizational vehicles. Safely secure passengers in wheelchairs and use specialized restraints during the loading/unloading process. Keep the interior and exterior of vehicles neat, clean, sanitized, and free of debris. Perform pre\-trip vehicle inspections and report necessary mechanical or safety repairs (seat belts, car seats, engine lights) to the Transportation Supervisor/Facilities Supervisor. Attend to children as needed in emergency situations and strictly adhere to emergency safety procedures. Use cellular phones strictly for parental, administrative, or emergency communications while parked safely. Assist with loading and unloading children (does not pick up or deliver children to the door). Handle medical incidents during transit (e.g., seizures, vomiting) by pulling over safely, calling 911 if medical attention is required, and immediately notifying nursing/administrative leadership. In the event of a breakdown or accident, follow emergency protocols, contact 911, and alert the Administrator immediately. Maintain clear communication regarding changes in route timing (e.g., early release days). Complete daily vehicle logs and turn them in weekly to administration. Technical Knowledge: Basic understanding of building systems, safety tools, hand/power tools, and basic troubleshooting for plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks. Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, work orders, and safety memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one\-on\-one and small group situations to clients, family members, and employees. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, distance, volume, and measurements for facility repairs and vehicle metrics. ### Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Florida Driver's License (CDL with Passenger and School Bus Endorsement) First Aid and CPR Certification HIV Course HIPAA Course Annual DOT Physical * PPD (Tuberculosis Screening) ### Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift/move up to 75\+ pounds when moving supplies or assisting with heavy maintenance tasks. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
