Client Accounting Specialist – Small CPA Firm Permanent Part\-Time \| 25–30 Hours per Week \| W\-2 Employee \| Remote \| $25–$30 per hour, depending on experience About the Position SMG Accounting \& Tax Advisors is a growing CPA firm seeking an experienced Client Accounting Specialist to join our team in a permanent, part\-time position of approximately 25–30 hours per week. This is a W\-2 employee position, not a contract or freelance bookkeeping opportunity. We are looking for someone who wants to become a long\-term member of a small CPA firm, develop relationships with our clients, and take meaningful ownership of the accounting work for an assigned group of clients. This is also not simply a data\-entry or bookkeeping position. The right person will understand accounting, enjoy getting financial records right, and be able to look beyond individual transactions to determine whether a client’s overall financial statements make sense. What You’ll Do You will work directly with the firm’s CPA/owner and assist with the accounting needs of a portfolio of small and mid\-sized business clients. Responsibilities will include: Maintain client accounting records in QuickBooks Online Perform bank and credit card reconciliations Review and properly categorize transactions Reconcile payroll reports to the general ledger and payroll liabilities Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies Prepare and post month\-end adjusting journal entries Review accounts receivable and accounts payable activity Maintain supporting accounting schedules and workpapers Prepare accurate monthly financial statements Review financial statements for unusual balances, trends, or inconsistencies Assist with QuickBooks cleanup and catch\-up projects Assist with month\-end and year\-end close Communicate with clients to obtain information and resolve accounting questions Identify accounting issues that should be brought to the CPA’s attention This position will initially focus primarily on QuickBooks Online, monthly accounting, reconciliations, and financial reporting rather than income tax preparation. Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate is an experienced accountant or senior\-level bookkeeper who is comfortable taking a client’s books from transaction\-level accounting through reconciled, accurate monthly financial statements. Experience working with multiple clients simultaneously in a CPA firm, accounting firm, or professional bookkeeping environment is particularly valuable. The right person will: Have strong QuickBooks Online experience Understand accounting beyond simply categorizing bank\-feed transactions Be comfortable reconciling bank, credit card, payroll, and other balance sheet accounts Understand adjusting journal entries and the month\-end close process Recognize when something on a client’s financial statements doesn’t make sense Have excellent attention to detail Be organized and dependable with recurring monthly deadlines Communicate professionally and comfortably with clients Be comfortable working independently while also asking questions when appropriate Place a high value on confidentiality and professional integrity Take pride in producing accurate, complete work Want a stable, long\-term position with a small professional firm CPA firm or other multi\-client accounting experience is strongly preferred. An accounting degree is preferred but not required for a candidate with significant relevant experience.
