Job Title: Behavior Technician Reports to: Executive Director, Behavior Lead FLSA Status: Non\-Exempt Company: Specialized Therapy Services is an expanding interdisciplinary company that services special education departments of public and charter schools in the San Diego, CA region. The company is a collective of providers to include Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Assistive Technology Specialists, Adaptive Physical Educators, Audiologists, School Psychologists, School Nurses, Music Therapists, Physical Therapists, Mental Health Counselors and Behavioral Therapists. We strive to follow ethical guidelines and deliver individualized care to students with IEP services. Job Summary: The primary purpose of this position is to provide quality, school\-based behavior intervention services to children who are presenting with behavioral concerns or those with various learning challenges or differences resulting in academic delays or social concerns. This position provides quality support for children individually, in small groups or in the classroom with developmental delays, various disabilities, and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The Behavior Technician will complete the duties as assigned with the focus of implementing behavior modification programs, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with others to target individualized goals according to treatment plans and IEPs. Job responsibilities may vary based on individual experience working with special needs children and background knowledge in a related field. Pay range depends upon experience. Basic Requirements: Actively support student learning in school classrooms. Ensure safety of students by implementing behavior improvement plans and building strong relationships with students. Providing one\-on\-one or small group support to students as needed. Provide direct instruction and support to students with behavioral challenges in one to one or small group settings. Monitoring student behavior and assist with classroom management. Maintain data collection and collaborate with BCBA to create treatment plan. Provide ongoing feedback and support to students to help them improve their social and academic skills. Collaborate with BCBA to create progress reports in a timely manner according to school policy and company billing policies. Provide support to students with special needs, including physical, emotional, or learning disabilities. Meet regularly with supervisors and regularly collaborate with school teachers and staff. Regularly collaborate and communicate effectively with other school staff, students, and families and demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to student needs. Observe federal, state, and local policies and regulations in the delivery of services. Demonstrate knowledge of and follow special education rules, regulations, procedures and timelines of the special education code. Manage multiple priorities and timelines. Keep careful record of billable hours and update timesheet on a daily basis. Monitor programs using observation, data collection and pre\-post assessment. Other Potential Requirements as determined by position level: Level 1: Entry level Technician (0\-4 Years experience) Collect and maintain accurate behavioral data. Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to develop and implement effective interventions. Prepare and organize data sheets and materials for students to use during sessions or while at school. Participating in professional development opportunities to stay up\-to\-date on best practices in education. Assisting the teacher with preparing and organizing materials for lessons and activities. Supporting the teacher in maintaining accurate student records and documentation. Performing administrative tasks such as taking attendance and managing student records. Level 2: Mid\-tier technician (5\-9 years’ experience) Collaborate with case managers and BCBAs to conduct data collection of behavioral trends to support the development of IEP goals and treatment plans. Perform behavioral skills tracking and conduct preference assessments as guided by case manager Monitor programs using observation, data collection and pre\-post assessment. Coordination and maintenance of department supplies/testing kits, protocols Participating in parent\-teacher conferences and other meetings as needed. Level 3: Behavior Analyst Student \+ Trainer (10 \+ years’ experience) Current enrollment or completion of a Behavior Analyst or Assistant Behavior Analyst Program. Collaborate with the Behavioral Lead facilitating training while in the field on behavioral intervention strategies to lower level staff. Conduct IOA data to ensure reliability of BT data. Monitor lower level staff for gaps in knowledge and collaborate with training team on target areas. Collaborate with supervising BCBA to support with parent training or consultation service. Performing administrative tasks such as monitoring and updating student records to match BCBA/case manager/teacher record keeping methods. REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES: Current certification as Registered Behavior Technician preferred but not required. Versed in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies to support behavioral needs. Proficient in knowledge of school academic content and skills. Versed in ABA and its adjoining techniques and strategies (i.e., DTT, PRT, PECS, NET, etc.) Experience working with students with complex profiles. A commitment to working with underserved youth 1\-9 years directly related experience in a pediatric setting. Ability to pass background/fingerprint clearance, health screenings and provide/obtain immunizations (TB) valid within the last year. Valid Driver’s License, proof of auto insurance, and reliable transportation excluding virtual providers only. Ability to travel to school sites and/or clinics for in\-person providers. Virtual providers are exempt from this requirement. COMPETENCIES: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Enthusiastic, professional, and responsible. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The duties of this job are almost always indoors which is climate controlled. Working conditions are normal for a TK\-12 school and/or pediatric clinic. In school settings, during times of inclement weather, providers are able to use their best judgment to determine if working indoors is most appropriate. Employees are frequently in the presence of students, other employees, school staff and student parents while working in person, virtually or having conversations on the phone. The office/school temperature is climate\-controlled but may from time to time be warmer than normal (summer) or colder (winter). The sound level is generally quiet however can vary based on school class/activities (recess, PE, etc), client engagement or behavior. The employee often performs work in an unsupervised setting.
