FUNCTION: The Power Production Specialist (PPS) III has the operational responsibility for the safe, reliable and responsible operation and maintenance of GEUS electric generation facilities and ancillary equipment. The incumbent performs the duties of the position without the need for direct supervision, except in unusual situations. Through experience and qualifications, the incumbent demonstrates a mastery of equipment and operational details required for the purpose of generating electric energy in a safe and responsible manner. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitors and supervises the daily operation of GEUS electric generating facilities in a safe, reliable, and responsible manner. Takes ownership of the Control Room and its care through delegation of, including but not limited to, cleaning and minor maintenance such as light bulbs. Supervises and mentors PPS II and PPS I personnel in their duties and provides training and development opportunities to advance their skills. Coordinates daily with the Relief PPS3 and the Maintenance Supervisor to develop work plans, schedules, and staff assignments to adequately support the function of the Steam Units in the various statuses. Maintains continuous awareness of the operational status of the electric generating facilities and ancillary equipment. Ensures appropriate and timely corrective action is taken for adjustments and minor / major repairs. Recommends projects and needed upgrades via CMMS program. Identifies and reports equipment failures and anomalies via CMMS program. Monitors and visually inspects electric generating facility equipment and indicators to detect evidence of operational issues. Oversees the startup and operation of standby emergency electrical generation online during emergencies and monitors system temperature, pressure, output, and lubrication. Ensures equipment such as generators, turbines, pumps, and compressors are maintained, cleaned and lubricated, as appropriate, to prevent equipment failure or deterioration. Ensures the collection of oil, water, and electrolyte samples for laboratory analysis. Communicates with T\&D System Operators to regulate and coordinate transmission loads and frequencies and line voltages. Ensures the appropriate examination and testing of electrical power distribution machinery and equipment. Performs inspections of plant records and logbook entries to ensure accuracy and adequacy and communicates with other plant personnel to assess equipment operating status. Ensures that orders from the Qualified Scheduling Entity (QSE) and T\&D System Operators are promptly followed. Requests assistance and calls in necessary personnel during power outages and emergencies. Ensures the physical safety of the electric generating facilities, ancillary equipment, and plant site. Ensures electric generating facilities and ancillary equipment are operated in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensures the recording and compilation of operational data and ensures compiled information and data is provided to the Administrative Assistant for retention in the plant digital files. Supports Maintenance Supervisor and/or assigned staff in troubleshooting and root cause analyses for failed equipment or systems. Follows all safety rules, policies, and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS: High school diploma, GED or equivalent. Minimum of 8 years of experience performing in an operations and maintenance environment involving electric generating facilities and ancillary equipment. Demonstrate full mastery of PPSII duties. Capable of multi\-tasking numerous duties. Ability to analyze and process information quickly to choose the best solution and solve problems. Communicate in a very clear and concise manner with all staff and support members to explain complex information and simplifying it so that it is easily understood. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of all tools and equipment appropriate to job responsibilities. Provide leadership in day\-to\-day operation. Ability to utilize computer and computer systems (including hardware and software) such as the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Excel and Microsoft Word. Demonstrate active listening skills by giving full attention to what other are saying, taking time to understand the points being made and asking questions as appropriate. Exhibit deductive reasoning e.g. the ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Exhibit inductive reasoning e.g. the ability to combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions that also includes finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events. Ability of perceptual speed which is the ability to quickly and accurately compare similarities and differences among sets of letters, numbers, objects, pictures or patterns. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Ability to lift 50 pound objects; excessive walking, repetitive bending, stooping, climbing multiple stars and climb a ladder; required to work 12 hour rotating shift schedule
