We are a law firm with offices in Dallas and Austin. We practice in primarily real estate, small business, wills and estates, and contract areas of law, but we handle most anything that is not family law or criminal law (maybe add construction). We are looking to hire a legal assistant. The job posting is remote, but we do need you to be based in the Austin or Dallas area for logistical reasons.
If you apply for and are selected for this position, you will be expected to render services that are consistent with the duties and responsibilities of such position, including but not limited to Employee shall serve as a Legal Assistant and shall perform a range of administrative and legal support duties under the supervision of the Firm’s attorneys and senior staff.
Employee’s primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: managing incoming and outgoing correspondence; organizing and maintaining case files in both physical (is physical necessary?) and digital formats; calendaring court deadlines, hearings, and appointments; performing data entry into the Firm’s practice management systems; preparing and formatting routine documents and correspondence; coordinating client communications as directed; facilitating document execution and filing; and performing other clerical and organizational tasks as needed.
In addition to these administrative functions, Employee shall actively participate in on\-the\-job training designed to familiarize them with substantive aspects of legal work necessary to qualify for future paralegal duties. This includes exposure to legal research methods, drafting legal documents, preparing discovery materials, managing filings with courts and agencies, and supporting attorneys in litigation and transactional matters.
Employee is expected to develop proficiency in legal terminology, procedural rules, and ethical standards applicable to paralegals, and to demonstrate increasing autonomy and competence in legal support functions over time. All duties shall be performed with a high level of professionalism, discretion, attention to detail, and in accordance with the standards and policies of the Firm. Employee acknowledges that the role may evolve based on the Firm’s needs and the Employee’s demonstrated skill progression. Experience
- No experience is necessary, but at least an undergraduate degree is required. If you have experience working at a law firm or in an administrative position elsewhere, that would be helpful.
- Strong writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence effectively.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a busy setting.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
