Job Description

Virginia Peninsula Community College is a two\-year institution of higher education established as a part of a statewide system of community colleges. It primarily serves the residents of the cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg, and the counties of James City and York.

This position will support the VCCS Funded RSVP (Road to Success in Virginia) project that will provide training in high\-quality Allied Health non\-credit certification programs, provide strong academic and job readiness services for student participants and increased partnerships with the region’s employers and community agencies.

The Project Coordinator will support coordination for the Road to Success in Virginia (RSVP) grant project made possible with a $215,000 grant award by the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) through its Road to Success in Virginia (RSVP) program. The Project Coordinator will collaborate with the Director of Noncredit Business, IT / Cybersecurity and Healthcare programs as well as the Peninsula Regional Educational Program (PREP – regional adult education) support achievement of the grant project’s outcomes during the lifetime of grant funding, which may possibly be renewed annually.

The RSVP program’s purpose is to match the region’s healthcare employers with qualified employees from underserved and at risk populations through short\-term educational programs and support services. Programs include Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA); Nurse Aide Education (CNA); Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA); EKG Technician (CET); Medical Coding and Billing Specialist (MCB); and Phlebotomy Technician (CPT). The RSVP program will also enhance the College’s outreach efforts in Williamsburg, VA and the Southeast Newport News area. The Project Coordinator will work with the region’s adult education provider to provide preparatory “Boot Camps” for students enrolling in career training.

The Project Coordinator will:

  • Hold regularly scheduled meetings with all RSVP partners and stakeholders (including PREP; the TANF program managers in the districts Departments of Social Services; and the local Workforce Investment Board) as well as the college’s grant accountant, and will communicate with them individually as needed to keep the RSVP program on track and overcome any impediments to its progress. The Project Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating the RSVP program budget and its related purchasing and expenditures in compliance with grant, college and Commonwealth requirements.
  • Conduct effective communication with VCCS RSVP officials and personnel, subcontractor(s), as well as with internal and external college constituencies including college leadership, staff in the Workforce Development Department, Allied Health program advisory board members, regional employers, Regional Departments of Social Services and the Hampton Roads Workforce Council.
  • Work with the Director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness to implement the RSVP evaluation and work with the grant project team to correct any identified needs for improvement.
  • Prepare and submit VCCS quarterly, annual, and close\-out reports and any college\-requested reporting; ensure the related budget reporting is prepared and submitted in a timely manner by the grant accountant.
