  • The Telehealth Specialist supports efforts to facilitate the achievement of UAB Medicine’s vision and strategy for the effective use and application of clinical information and technology. The Telehealth Specialist positively influences health care delivery and patient care outcomes, promotes quality initiatives and makes efficient use of resources. This position serves multiple roles for UAB Medicine whose audiences include patients, providers, and staff at all telehealth sites. The position provides training and education on Ambulatory eMedicine, serves as a data specialist for all telehealth activities including billing, quality and clinical data, and aids with discovering and supporting telehealth grant activities. The position also assists with the preparation and conducting of telehealth video visits.

    Key Duties \& Responsibilities

    1\. Provides training and education to patients, consumers, providers, and staff on telehealth remote monitoring systems:

    2\. a) Education on health\-related mobile applications .

    3\.b) Collaborate with super users to augment the telehealth support of Ambulatory eMedicine.

    4\. c) Provides Go Live support with eMedicine staff for Ambulatory eMedicine.

    5\. d) Provides ongoing support for Ambulatory eMedicine.

    6\. Participates in Clinical Adoption efforts for Ambulatory eMedicine implementations and upgrades:

    7\. a) Effectively participates in training teams in a matrix reporting structure, as well as supports collaboration and encourages acceptance of and enthusiasm for changes associated with Care Transformation.

    8\. b) Contributes to establishing credibility among stakeholders

    9\. c) Recognizes the impact of change and strategically supports communication and education efforts.

    10\. d) Assists in supporting Ambulatory eMedicine strategic and tactical plans.

    11\. e) Assists in implementing plans and strategies for gaining physician acceptance and promoting ongoing use of Ambulatory eMedicine.

    12\. f) Works with clinical users to adopt new workflows and tools.

    13\. g) Maps real\-life clinical practices to informatics applications.

    14\. Serves as a trusted point\-of\-contact for development and submission process for telehealth department grants:

    15\. a) In conjunction with eMedicine leadership, serves as point\-of\-contact on communications related to pre\-award activities.

    16\. b) Prepares, refines, reviews, and submits fully populated and complete sponsored research proposals.

    17\. c) Works in partnership with eMedicine Leadership to request and procedure, edit and upload NIH biographical sketches (NIH Biosketch). Completes Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) checklists and other OSP required forms. Procures and edits NIH Other Support Forms.

    18\. d) Uses productivity tools, such as Asana, Trello, MS Teams, and Excel, to track and disseminate project development milestones across teams and stakeholders.

    19\. e) Develop post go live tips in conjunction with eMedicine staff to aid in the usability of Ambulatory eMedicine and Health Loop systems.

    20\. Serves as data processing specialist for telehealth activities:

    21\. a) Reconciles patient database to ensure current and previous patient information is collected from telehealth outreach billing sites, including facesheets and encounters.

    22\. b) Reviews data related to RPM activities – ensuring that managing providers are properly assigned to patients.

    23\. c) In coordination with the MSO, prepares billing templates related to telehealth billing activities.

    24\. Other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    At minimum an Associate’s degree in an IT related field is required. Bachelor’s degree in a Healthcarerelated or Information Systems field is preferred. One (1\) year of experience with training adult learners at various skill levels required. Ambulatory clinical experience or Clinical information system experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
