JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Education Manager, the Education Coordinator supports public programming at Linda Hall Library by creating and delivering education programs, performing outreach in the community, and contributing toward the Library’s goal of offering enriching and engaging educational opportunities to youth, families and educators in the Kansas City region. This position will be heavily involved in launching the Library’s summer camp program. Additionally, the Education Coordinator will assist with the year\-round operations of the Kansas City Invention Convention for students in grades 3\-12, assisting with outreach visits, educator professional development, event planning and recruiting partners, volunteers, educators and judges to the program.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in the planning and development of the Library’s summer camp, including curriculum development, staff training, and policy development.
- Support the Kansas City Invention Convention (KCIC) by performing educational outreach activities in classrooms and other public settings, facilitating educator professional development, assisting with event planning and recruiting partners, volunteers, educators and judges to the program.
- Collaborate with Public Services and Exhibitions teams to co\-develop, align, and support educational programs and experiences for primary and secondary school groups visiting the Library.
- Represent the Library and KCIC at community events and partnership meetings.
- Assist with public programs, including evening lectures, Second Saturday events, and virtual programs.
- Provide exceptional patron service by answering questions about programs, collections, and library operations.
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested for the general support of the Library.
- Four\-year degree in education, STEM, or related field (or significant progress in a relevant degree program)
- Experience working in a summer camp setting as an educator or teaching assistant
- Proven success in educational program development and project management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with MS Office products, including proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Must maintain a valid, current driver’s license.
- May occasionally need to work evenings and weekends as required.
- Experience working at a summer camp or similar setting.
- Experience in community outreach and building partnerships with local organizations.
- Able to develop lesson plans for STEM, invention, and innovation topics to support invention education.
