- Ensure timeliness and relevancy of story collection as appropriate to specific requests (e.g. grant reports, organizational communications calendar, etc.).
- Conduct in\-person interviews with neighbors served, volunteers, partners, supporters and staff using strength\-based approaches, ensuring respectful and dignified storytelling.
- Coordinate audio/video storytelling needs with the Digital Communications Specialist.
- Draft written story content for approval to use across various platforms, including website, email, social media, grant reports and donor appeals.
- Contribute to a shared team media library with stories, comments, images, and audio for use in both print and digital formats, organizing and optimizing assets to support efficient search, retrieval, and cross\-departmental use.
- Protect the dignity, privacy, and consent of those interviewed by obtaining and adhering to all required releases and permissions for story and photo capture per organizational protocols. Coordinate with the Digital Communications Specialist with regard to audio and video releases and permissions.
- Work across the organization with the programs, operations, volunteer services, and agency relations teams to identify story opportunities.
- Coordinate and execute all fundraising and friend\-raising events including planning, set\-up/tear\-down, scheduling, and day of management of Souper Bowl, Mission in Motion, Hunger Action Month events, and other engagement activities.
- Establish and maintain key community relationships and conduct activities to identify potential partnerships for events in conjunction with the other Development Department Team members.
- Develop strong and collaborative working relationships with members of the Development Team to ensure engagement is coordinated.
- Serve as point of contact for general communications and marketing and logistical scheduling inquiries as needed.
- Provide general communications support as part of a team with regard to writing, graphic design, photo/video backup, data entry, giving tours, public speaking, translation assistance, and developing communications assets in Spanish as needed.
- Support email and call groups such as the Development Support inbox and food assistance calls.
- Provide staffing support to large\-scale ‘all hands\-on deck’ events and initiatives that impact the overall development program or organization.
- Bilingual fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism or an equivalent level of directly related experience to this position.
- Minimum of three years working in nonprofit development, event planning, journalism, community relations, sales or other related field.
- Experience in database maintenance, entering and maintaining current and accurate records in specialized digital or CRM platforms. (Salesforce experience a plus.)
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams or Zoom virtual platforms.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with other staff, clients, volunteers, agency representatives, and the general public. Successful experience in making cold calls and in engaging people through networking and one\-on\-one interactions.
- Travel around the state required. Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement will be provided. Must have valid driver’s license and active car insurance.
- Must be willing and able to work occasional nights and weekends.

- Work environment is a combination of hybrid/office (50%) and in the field (50%).
- When in office environment, work is primarily in front of a computer screen with repeated finger motions and extensive phone use. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, sometimes between floors and across large areas of the building. When out of the office, the employee may be required to participate in outdoor activities or events which are subject to exposure to weather conditions.

Purpose
The Storytelling and Events Specialist serves as part of a collaborative Marketing and Events Team within the Development Department. This role will elevate the voices of neighbors, volunteers, partners, supporters, and staff to illustrate the real impact of food assistance while honoring lived experience. This position will build understanding, empathy, and support for Roadrunner Food Bank’s work through compelling, ethical story collection and storytelling. This position is also responsible for deepening Roadrunner Food Bank’s collaborative relationships with organizations, donors, and supporters to build and sustain community involvement with our various fundraising and friend\-raising events.
