GENERAL SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is a key support position in the Finance department. They are responsible for entering and maintaining daily, weekly, and monthly data in the financial software system, including but not limited to cash receipts, expenditures, grant and project information, and community billings. This position will also assist in preparing supporting general ledger and grant management reports to be used by Finance leadership. In addition, they will support the General Ledger Clerk and A/P clerk in their duties and responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES \& RESPONSIBILITIES
The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job\-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.
1\. Assists the Senior Accountant with maintenance of general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers.
2\. Creates and post journal entries, including adjustments to financial records.
3\. Prepares bank account reconciliations and resolution of outstanding items in an accurate and timely manner.
4\. Performs general ledger account reconciliation as assigned and resolve identified issues.
5\. Assists with preparing monthly SEFA and/or community billings and associated journal entries in accordance with community contracts.
6\. Reconciles cash and check receipts to prepare items for remote deposit.
7\. Assists and provide backup for General Leder clerk in fare collection, record maintenance, and reconciliations.
8\. Participates in monthly reconciliation process, reconciling accounts as assigned.
9\. Processes weekly expense reports and reconcile monthly card statements.
10\. Compiles and analyze accounting records and other data as needed to assist management with organizational decisions.
11\. Assists in the collection of delinquent accounts receivable.
12\. Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others.
- Position has moderate fiscal responsibility. May be responsible for the billing, collection and/or accounting of funds. May be responsible for the handling and balancing of cash.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
- Or one (1\) to three (3\) years working in accounting

- Will work in a normal office environment. Will sometimes be required to work and/or attend meetings or events in public and at all RideKC locations.
- Monday through Friday 8am until 5pm.
- Occasional abnormal hours are expected and required for specific events and to reach all employees.
- Occasional travel within the metropolitan area may be required.
- This position is relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards and is generally sedentary. Incumbents may be required to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
