Job Description

Job Title: Certified Medical Assistant

Report to: Clinical Supervisor

General Purpose

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a cross\-trained member of the clinic who works with all health care professionals in delivering high quality patient care. The MA works alongside the Physician or Health Care Practitioner to perform administrative and clinical duties.

Essential Functions

The MA also acts as a patient liaison and is instrumental with helping patients feel at ease in the office. The MA is responsible for the following duties including: Other duties may be assigned.

General

· Maintains the flow of patients through the clinic

· Obtains patient history to present to the Physician

· Enters essential information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) for the physician to access

· Triages phone calls and responds to messages appropriately and in a timely fashion

· Maintains a clean and organized work area

· Enters all government required data including PQRS, MIPS, MACRA \& Meaningful Use information into EHR system

· Monitors patient portal and EHR messages

Clinical

· Prepares patient for the Physician’s exam by properly gowning them and removing bandages/dressings when necessary

· Assist with setup and cleanup of office procedures; equipment sterilization; medication administration; accurate documentation in electronic health record and medical supply inventory management

· Escorts patients to the X\-ray department with orders when needed

· Escorts patients to the cast room to remove/apply casts/splints or fit Durable Medical Equipment (DME) as needed

· Perform blood draws \& PRP processing

· Greets and acknowledges patients in a courteous and helpful manner and escorts them to the exam room

· Obtains patients’ chief complaint and medical history to present to the Physician

· Collects vital signs and patient history, collects specimens and performs basic laboratory tests, as directed by physician in addition to other clinical tasks

· Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians’ instructions to patients

· Contacts medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission

· Prepares materials needed for the Physician to perform injections or minor office procedures

· Assists the Physician in the exam room

· Has the ability to remove sutures/staples if needed

· May be asked to transfer patients in/out of their assisted mobility devices, i.e.: wheelchairs, scooters, etc

· Stocks and cleans exam rooms daily as assigned

· Check expiration dates on all supplies to include medication

· Write the items taken on the list inside the supply cabinet

· Enter DME products in Vision prior to dispensing to include checking Same and Similar for Medicare patients and obtaining ABN’s when necessary

Administrative

· Accurately and efficiently enters medical information into the EHR

· Creates Physician orders, sends them to the appropriate facility or person to be fulfilled and follows up on them

· Referrals

· Surgery Orders and Surgery Clearance Forms

· Medication Prescriptions

· Physical Therapy

· Schedules patients on Physicians’ schedule as needed

· Submits authorizations in a timely manner

· Navigates the systems to provide Physicians with all documents needed to see the patient

· X\-ray/MRI reports

· Labs

· Office Notes

· Triages phone calls and responds to messages in a timely manner

· Accurately fills out forms requested by the patient in a timely manner, including, but not limited to: EDD, FMLA, DMV, Home Health, etc

· Notifies the Clinical Supervisor when supplies are needed

· Submits medication refill requests appropriately with Physician approval

· Processes and documents all calls through the computer system per policy and procedure

· Communicates information in a clear, concise, and professional manner at all times

· Performs additional duties as assigned

· Coverage will include all tasks

Qualifications: ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES, KNOWLEDGE \& EXPERIENCE

· One to three years of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic, preferred

· One to two years of experience scheduling appointments in a medical clinic environment or hospital, preferred

· Experience with computer systems required, including web\-based applications and Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, required

· Excellent, professional and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with diverse groups of people, required

· Maintains utmost confidentiality, required

· Knowledge of medical procedures and basic medical terminology, required

· Experience with electronic health records, preferred

· Excellent communication skills, required

Education

· High School diploma or GED, required

Training/Certifications

· Medical Assistant in office training and/or certificate required

Job Type: Full\-time

Pay: $22\.00 \- $23\.00 per hour
