This firm is a Michigan\-based personal injury law firm focused on representing clients involved in automobile accidents. We advocate aggressively on behalf of injured individuals to secure the benefits and compensation they are entitled to under Michigan's No\-Fault Act. Our caseload spans PIP disputes, third\-party liability claims, and Michigan Assigned Claims (MACD) matters throughout Southeast Michigan.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, detail\-oriented Paralegal with strong working knowledge of Michigan's court system and e\-filing procedures. This role goes beyond clerical support — the ideal candidate independently manages case files from intake through resolution, prepares substantive legal documents, handles court filings, and serves as a key liaison between attorneys, clients, insurance carriers, and the courts.
The right candidate knows the Michigan Court Rules, is comfortable filing in the surrounding circuit, district, and appellate courts, and can navigate MiFILE and the Michigan Tribunal (MTA) systems with confidence.
Responsibilities
Court Filings \& E\-Filing
- Prepare, e\-file, and serve pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other court documents through MiFILE (TrueFiling) and any court\-specific systems
- File and track submissions with the Michigan Tribunal (MTA) and administrative bodies as required
- Maintain working knowledge of filing rules and local practices for surrounding courts, including but not limited to: Oakland County Circuit Court (6th Circuit)
- District Courts throughout the tri\-county area (e.g., 46th, 48th, 36th, 50th)
- Verify compliance with the Michigan Court Rules (MCR), local court rules (LCR), and each court's administrative orders
- Confirm proper service of process and maintain proofs of service
- Draft complaints, answers, affirmative defenses, motions (including Motions to Compel, Motions for Summary Disposition, Motions in Limine), discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, stipulations, and orders
- Prepare demand letters, settlement packages, and mediation summaries
- Assist attorneys with case investigation, deposition preparation, trial binders, and exhibit organization
- Calendar and monitor all critical deadlines: Statute of Limitations, one\-year\-back rule (MCL 500\.3145\), discovery cutoffs, hearings, case evaluation, mediation, and trial dates
- Maintain and update client files in the firm's case management system
- Communicate directly with insurance carriers regarding PIP claims, benefit status, coverage disputes, and reimbursement
- Prepare, submit, and track PIP applications and supporting documentation
- Handle MACD (Michigan Assigned Claims) filings and ongoing correspondence with the Michigan Automobile Insurance Placement Facility (MAIPF)
- Draft and send demand letters, replacement service forms, wage loss documentation, and attendant care logs
- Request and organize medical records, billing records, police reports, and lien documentation from providers and third parties
- Conduct client intake appointments (in\-person and by phone) and walk new clients through required paperwork
- Answer incoming calls, screen inquiries, and route matters appropriately
- Follow up with clients regarding outstanding paperwork, signed authorizations, IME appointments, and medical treatment updates
- Maintain a welcoming, professional environment for clients visiting the office
- Perform conflict checks, open and close matters, and maintain organized digital and physical files
- Handle correspondence with courts, opposing counsel, and third parties
- Support billing, settlement disbursements, and closing statements under attorney supervision
- General office duties as needed (scanning, filing, copying, mailing, maintaining supplies)
- Paralegal certificate, Associate's degree in paralegal studies, Bachelor's degree, or equivalent hands\-on experience ( 3\+ years as a paralegal, preferably in personal injury or civil litigation)
- Familiarity with filing practices in Oakland, Wayne, and Macomb County Circuit Courts and surrounding District Courts
- Working knowledge of the Michigan Court Rules (MCR) and applicable local court rules
- Strong understanding of Michigan's No\-Fault Act, PIP benefits, and third\-party liability claims
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, discovery, and settlement documents
- Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable learning case management software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; professional phone etiquette
- Highly organized, deadline\-driven, and able to manage a high\-volume caseload
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Experience filing with the Michigan Tribunal (MTA) and/or Michigan administrative agencies
- Experience with MACD / Michigan Assigned Claims filings and MAIPF correspondence
- Experience filing appeals with the Michigan Court of Appeals
- Working knowledge of medical terminology related to auto accident injuries (orthopedic, neurological, traumatic brain injury)
- Familiarity with legal research tools (Westlaw, Lexis, Fastcase)
- Notary Public commission (or willingness to obtain)
- Bilingual (Spanish, Arabic, or other languages spoken in Metro Detroit) — a plus
