Cornerstone Healing Center a substance use and mental health treatment center is searching for a Billing Specialist. This role is responsible for managing claims, following up, correcting issues, and ensuring claims don't sit unresolved.

JOB SUMMARY: The Billing Specialist supports the revenue cycle by ensuring accurate and timely claim submission, follow\-up, and resolution. This role focuses on claim status review, corrections, and identifying missed billing opportunities to ensure services are billed and reimbursed appropriately.

This position is ideal for someone who is detail\-oriented, organized, and has a foundational understanding of insurance and healthcare billing. The Billing Specialist works closely with clinical and administrative teams to ensure accurate documentation and proper reimbursement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Claims Management \& Follow\-Up

  • Conduct follow\-up on outstanding claims, including those over 30 days old
  • Review claim status and take appropriate action to resolve delays or denials
  • Submit corrected claims and appeals as needed
  • Identify and resolve claim discrepancies, denials, and rejections
  • Billing \& Revenue Integrity

  • Identify and process missed billing opportunities
  • Ensure all services rendered are billed accurately and timely
  • Verify and maintain accurate client demographic and insurance information in billing systems
  • Submit attendance, transportation, and related billing documentation as required
  • Insurance \& Coordination

  • Work with insurance companies to verify claim status and resolve issues
  • Maintain working knowledge of payer requirements, billing guidelines, and reimbursement policies
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure documentation supports billing requirements
  • Compliance \& Accuracy

  • Ensure billing practices comply with HIPAA and all federal/state regulations
  • Maintain accuracy in coding, billing, and documentation processes
  • Participate in ongoing training and development
  • General Responsibilities

  • Track and organize workload, caseload, and deadlines
  • Assist with reporting or tracking as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • 21 years of age or older.
  • * Education and Duration of Education:

  • A high school diploma (2\+ years) or
  • A high school equivalency diploma (3\+ Months) or
  • Associate's degree (6\+ Months), or
  • A College Degree (3\+ years, or more), or
  • A Master's Degree (1\+ years or more).
  • * Type of Experience:

  • Behavioral Health Services, Mental Health or Substance Abuse; or
  • Sober Living Management / Group Home Experience; or
  • Hospital / Medical facility / Psychiatric Care; or
  • DDD Services / Special Education; or
  • Non\-Profit Community Service Experience related to substance/mental health recovery
  • Duration of Experience must be 6\-Months full time in the field or higher.
  • Basic understanding of healthcare insurance and billing processes
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and follow through on claims
  • Effective communication and problem\-solving skills
  • Proficient in medical coding using ICD\-10 and ICD\-9 coding systems
  • Familiarity with healthcare billing software and electronic medical records (EMR) systems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and Cornerstone staff
  • HIPAA/Confidentiality Training
  • Must hold valid and active / unrestricted Arizona’s driver’s license
  • * Preferred:

  • Experience in medical or behavioral health billing
  • Familiarity with ICD\-10 coding and EMR systems
  • Medicaid and/or commercial insurance experience
  • KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND ATTITUDES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of software programs for personal computer use, especially word processing, email, and spreadsheets.
  • Strong problem\-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, gaining cooperation and resolving conflicts.
  • Ability to plan and organize workload and manage deadlines of him/herself.
  • Ability to maintain and demonstrate ethical professional standards and demeanor, including the confidentiality of employee and patient data, patient boundaries, and other sensitive information.
  • Demonstrated competence with, and continued commitment to respect for cultural differences and diversity, protecting patient rights.
  • Recognition of the limits of one’s own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support, as needed.
  • Recognize and respond to fire, disaster, hazard, and medical emergency: and
  • Has completed all the requirements above and is documented in application in training including the ability to pass background checks required by Cornerstone Healing Center.
