Position Summary:
Windward Risk Managers is seeking a motivated and detail\-oriented law student to serve as a Summer Legal \& Compliance Intern supporting both the Legal and Compliance Departments. This hybrid internship provides hands\-on exposure to the legal and regulatory environment of a residential property insurance organization. The intern will assist with research, regulatory compliance initiatives, policy development, and operational legal support, while gaining practical experience in insurance law, corporate governance, and risk management.
Work Environment
This is a hybrid position requiring a combination of remote work and periodic attendance at the Windward Risk Managers office. The intern will work closely with attorneys and compliance professionals and will gain practical exposure to the legal and regulatory operations of a growing insurance organization.
Essential Functions:
Regulatory Compliance
Conduct legal and regulatory research related to state insurance laws and regulatory requirements (with emphasis on Florida and other operating states).
Assist in tracking and summarizing new or proposed legislation, regulations, and regulatory bulletins affecting property and casualty insurers.
Support compliance monitoring efforts, including review of internal practices against regulatory standards.
Help maintain compliance calendars, filings, and documentation.
Corporate Legal Support
Assist with drafting, reviewing, and organizing contracts, vendor agreements, and standard legal templates.
Support corporate governance activities, including preparation of materials for board or committee meetings.
Maintain legal records and document management systems.
Consumer Protection \& Market Conduct
Assist with research and analysis related to consumer complaints, regulatory inquiries, and market conduct expectations.
Help prepare responses to regulatory information requests or examinations.
Support initiatives related to fair claims handling, underwriting practices, and policyholder communications.
Privacy \& Data Security
Assist with research and documentation related to privacy laws and data protection requirements (e.g., state privacy statutes, data breach notification standards).
Support policy review and updates related to data governance and information security compliance.
Ethics, Risk, and Internal Controls
Assist with policy review and updates for internal compliance policies, codes of conduct, and training materials.
Support enterprise risk management and internal control documentation as needed.
Help develop or update compliance training resources for employees.
Special Projects
Participate in cross\-functional legal and compliance projects, including operational improvement initiatives.
Prepare legal memoranda, summaries, and presentations for internal stakeholders.
Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental priorities.

Required Education and Experience:
Current enrollment in an accredited law school (rising 2L or 3L preferred).
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability.
Interest in insurance law, regulatory compliance, privacy, corporate law, or risk management.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a professional environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with legal research platforms preferred.
