  • SUMMARY

  • Under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI) and in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Research Assistant will assist with all research projects conducted by the PI. This may include:

  • Literature reviews
  • Qualitative interviews
  • Qualitative analysis
  • Clinical trial enrollment
  • Manuscript writing, editing, and submissions
  • This will also include administrative tasks such as:

  • Scheduling of programs
  • Record\-keeping
  • Maintaining key performance indicators and research timelines
  • Depending on the priorities and needs of the department and the investigator, the Research Assistant will help ensure successful completion of projects, as well as substantially participate in the conduct of research and the co\-authorship of scientific publications.

  • Support qualitative research initiatives including:

  • Patient screening
  • Obtaining informed consent
  • Conducting interviews
  • Data management, analysis, and coding
  • Drafting manuscripts
  • Supporting clinical trial research initiatives including ensuring adherence to appropriate protocols and regulatory policies and maintaining all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for related research.

    Conduct background literature reviews, citation management, drafting, writing, and proofreading manuscripts.

    Assisting with administrative tasks including:

  • IRB applications and reports
  • Maintaining trial participant screening and enrollment records
  • Maintaining appropriate historical record\-keeping and scientific decision\-making documentation
  • Taking lab meeting minutes and other tasks as needed
  • Completes required paperwork and assists in preparing research progress reports on all studies.

    May assist principal investigators with development, design, and data management specifics of new studies and forms and may assist with tabulating and reviewing data results for publication. May use computer programming to assist in data analysis.

    Acts as a liaison to researchers at other study sites collaborating on studies with the Principal Investigator(s).

    Coordinates activities of others (e.g., undergraduate research interns) assigned to research projects to interview patients, complete forms, or perform other tasks.

    Maintains and enhances professional expertise through appropriate educational opportunities and literature.

    May support health navigation services for communities impacted by incarceration.

    Conduct qualitative interviews with incarcerated individuals and/or community members.

    Maintains the program’s shared file server.

    May assist in the co\-authorship of scientific publications.

    Performs other related tasks as necessary.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • ### BASIC KNOWLEDGE

  • Meaningful experience working with formerly incarcerated individuals or marginalized populations highly desired; strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.
  • Demonstrates advanced competence with various software programs, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with Vivo, R, and/or Stata a plus. Willingness to learn essential.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team\-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
  • Creative thinker with the ability to troubleshoot issues quickly and effectively.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and has the ability to exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, and discretion and to work effectively and collaboratively.
  • Can conform to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem\-solving capabilities. Exhibits flexibility during times of change.
  • Good communication regarding needs to be successful in the role will be necessary.
  • Previous research experience recommended.
  • Interviewing and surveying experience preferred.
  • Experience in academic writing highly desired.
  • ### EXPERIENCE

    Completion of a bachelor’s degree necessary; in psychology, behavioral science, public health, or a related field is desirable. Masters degrees welcomed.

    Note: A holistic approach will be taken to assessing a combination of education, research experience, and related work and practice experience that indicates an ability to perform successfully in the role.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Normal office environment. Partial remote work will be feasible. Some travel to out\-of\-state study sites may be possible but not required. Residency in or near Rhode Island highly desirable for good order efficiency of the work, which may require frequent presence at local study sites.

    Often works within a specific department to identify, enroll, and follow up on research patients. May spend much of the time standing and walking between departments, offices, clinical care areas, etc.

  • Performs independently with the department’s policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of the departmental policies and procedures is required.
