- The Program Technician will perform routine and high\-consequence animal diagnostic testing in the UADA Leland Tollett Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory. Responsibilities include performing and keeping up with serology, microbiology, and molecular diagnostic testing on veterinary client specimens and regulatory disease surveillance samples, as well as performing routine housekeeping, laboratory maintenance, and client services.
- The Program Technician provides the highest level of client services and quality laboratory results through implementing existing laboratory quality management and safety programs, ensuring compliance with expected practices, documenting practices, and reviewing work outputs. Specific duties include:
- Preparation of blood samples and reagents for testing. Performing enzyme\-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID), hemagglutination\-inhibition (HI), and serum agglutination methodologies.
- Isolation and identification of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi, Salmonella, and performing antimicrobial sensitivity tests.
- Nucleic acid extraction and real\-time Polymerase Chain Reaction (rtPCR) testing.
- Performing and documenting appropriate quality control verification for all tests performed, maintaining records on all testing procedures, and completing official testing forms and reports.
- Sample receiving, case accessioning, data entry, quality control record management, client communication, reporting of test results, client invoicing, and additional operational and administrative support services.
- Reagent and media preparation, inventory and restocking of supplies, and cleaning and disinfecting of the laboratory and laboratory equipment.
- Assisting with animal postmortem exams, clerical tasks, building and equipment maintenance, etc.
- Perform other miscellaneous procedures which may require moderate lifting and following appropriate biosafety practices for handling of diagnostic specimens and microbial samples that may contain disease\-causing agents.
- The technician will be required to participate in the laboratory rabies protection program, which will require rabies vaccination.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in an agricultural, biological, engineering, logistical, or technological field of study.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of work related to laboratory testing, animal agriculture, agricultural regulation, or logistics.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The applicant must have good computer skills, good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to work within the team of other lab members. Repetitive pipetting of samples, handling biological specimens, and precise record keeping are required.
Must be able to work past normal closing time, occasionally, to complete time\-sensitive laboratory testing.
