- Supervises and mentors personnel to ensure that directives, policies, and procedures are followed.
- Conducts yearly evaluations of school directors, academic directors, and others as assigned.
- Represents the Superintendent at district, local, state, and association functions as directed.
- Assist the development and implementation of District policies, guidelines and procedures.
- Attends Board Leadership and Cabinet meetings.
- Attends all meetings of the Board of Education and assists the Superintendent in following up with Board requests and preparation of presentations, reports, and information for Board meetings.
- Provides leadership and supervision to all schools in the effective implementation of the Canyons School District Strategic Plan.
- Provides leadership and direction to schools, employees, programs, parents and communities in the implementation of effective plans to close student achievement gaps between subgroups.
- Works with members of the Superintendent’s Cabinet to communicate with the parents, patrons, and others regarding district issues, developments, and successes.
- In conjunction with the Business Administrator, prepares and monitors budgets for schools and assists in the preparation of the District’s annual budget.
- Assists in the implementation of capital facilities improvement plans.
- Assists the Business Administrator in the preparation and submission of budget documents and statistical and fiscal reports required by law or the Utah State Board of Education.
- Attends Business Cabinet Meetings.
- Reviews Requests for Review of claims of employee and student discrimination, harassment, and/or retaliation as needed.
- Serves on appeals committees as assigned.
- Provides leadership, specific direction, and supervision to district\-level directors responsible for the daily operation of elementary, secondary, and special schools.
- Supervises the implementation of effective practices to maintain appropriate student behavior and discipline.
- Ensures District compliance with all federal and state requirements related to implementation of instructional programs including, but not limited to, IDEA, 504, ADA, Title I, Title III, ESEA, etc. in all schools.
- Provides leadership, support, and accountability for the implementation and maintenance of effective Building Leadership Teams (BLTs), Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and Student Support Teams (SSTs) in all District schools.
- Supports efforts to ensure that all District schools implement Teacher Student Success Plans (TSSPs), School Land Trust Plans, and that all aspects of the District’s MTSS Framework are implemented with fidelity.
- Provides leadership and direction to schools and employees on fostering a culture where every individual feels valued and supported.
- Leads and supports the provision of a comprehensive professional development program for principals, district\-level administrators, teachers, and others as assigned. Provides supervision to ensure that strategies and practices introduced through professional development are effectively implemented and maintained in classrooms and schools.
- Provides leadership and supervision of the MTSS Team to lead professional development for school\-based administrators,identification of areas of inadequate student achievement as well as the implementation in all schools of effective strategies, interventions, and plans to remedy such inadequacies and improve student learning outcomes.
- Participates with directors assigned to the MTSS team in the ongoing development of the District’s MTSS Framework.
- Provides leadership, specific direction, and oversight to the Directors of Career and Technical Education, Federal and State Programs, Information Technology, Instructional Supports, Student Services, Research and Assessment, and Special Education.
- Attends department meetings to help establish priorities, monitor compliance of directives, and provide support.
- Attends Supervisor Advisory Team meetings to support the Director of Human Resources and school principals with the discipline of district and school employees.
- Attends professional conferences as needed or assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ph.D. or Ed. D. in Educational Leadership or related field preferred.
- Requires a valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah with a “License Area of Concentration” of “Administration.”
- Requires minimum of 10 years of previous job\-related school/district administrative work experience with demonstrated effectiveness, to include a minimum of 5 years experience as a school\-based administrator, including some of those years as a principal.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, the ability to work well with a variety of stakeholders and patrons, ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team environment, and unrelenting focus on customer service. Interacts with board members, organization representatives, legislators, state office personnel, attorneys, all District personnel, and the general public.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, as well as advanced competency with curriculum, assessment, technology, budgets, and grant writing/administration.
- Strong track record of working collaboratively across an education system to promote improved results for all students.
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Word applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite software required.
- Significant managerial experience, including supervision of employees and staff.
- Accuracy and confidentiality essential.
- Outstanding organization, initiative and a professional, courteous demeanor suitable for working at the executive level and interacting with patrons and customers.
- Incumbent must be fingerprinted and clear a criminal backgrounds check.
- Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Predictable and reliable attendance.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk and talk or hear.
- The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Superintendent is a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet and is responsible for supervising and directing the Directors of School Performance and principals in all matters pertaining to the day\-to\-day operation and practices of the schools, as well as accountability for implementation of the District’s Strategic Plan and the MTSS Framework. Incumbent is also responsible for supervising and supervising the directors of Federal and State Programs, Information Technology, Instructional Supports, Student Services, Research and Assessment, Special Education, and their departments. Responsibilities also include overseeing the proper involvement of parents and community members in the planning and decision\-making process as directed by the Board and Superintendent. Assistant Superintendent assists the Superintendent in all matters related to attaining excellence and accountability in school operations and student academic achievement.
