Position Title: Career Advisor

Location: Horace High School

Department: Career and Technical Education

Reports To: Principal

Term: Renewing 188\-day contract beginning with 2026\-27 school year. Following school calendar.

Schedule: Mon\-Fri Full\-time

Salary: Positions follows the 2025\-2027 Teacher Salary Schedule

Date of last review: March 2026 *SUMMARY*: The Career Advisor shall provide sequential career development activities, current career information, and related career exploration opportunities to learners in grades seven through twelve. The Career Advisor shall use computer\-assisted career guidance systems and work at the direction and under the supervision of the school district counseling staff. Collaboration:+ Partners with counselors to deliver career guidance lessons; facilitates classroom career exploration activities.

+ Develops and maintains relationships with business leaders and community clients, gathering feedback on workforce development.

+ Serves as a liaison to assist teachers with industry speakers.

+ Coordinates job shadows, career fairs, college visits, job interviews, and various other career opportunities.

+ Serves as a member of the Counseling Advisory Committee.

+ Works with Career Development Counselor to develop a program of work and summary report for the Department of CTE.

+ Completes meeting minutes and send to the Department of CTE Career Development.

+ Works collaboratively with C³TEC Career Development team to cultivate business partnerships for work\-based learning.

+ Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff.

+ Engages with other district staff in the professional learning community process.

Communication:+ Provides career information resources to learners, staff, and parents/guardians.

+ Connects and shares ideas through appropriate/applicable formats to express thoughts and ideas with integrity.

+ Utilizes effective communication skills to facilitate connection and sharing of thoughts and ideas in multiple formats with diverse audiences.

+ Establishes and clearly articulates procedures and routines that promote efficiency and appropriate use of time.

+ Clearly communicates the instructional purpose of each lesson and makes connections to prior learning.

+ Engages learners in meaningful direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice.

+ Utilizes questions, discussions, and dialogue that promote critical thinking about diverse perspectives, viewpoints, and experiences.

Critical Thinking:+ Utilizes working knowledge of internet\-based career information systems, such as RUReady.ND.gov.

+ Maintains learner career portfolios.

+ Assists in preparing students for CTE Scholarship eligibility; monitors students' credits to encourage eligibility for the North Dakota Scholarship.

+ Reasons, interprets, and analyzes information to generate new knowledge and understanding.

+ Demonstrates knowledge of content and pedagogy; explicitly connecting key concepts to develop learner skills.

Reflection:+ Demonstrates understanding of the diverse social, emotional and developmental learning needs of learners.

+ Maintains communication with supervisor and director regarding general feedback, career advancement opportunities, and areas of growth opportunities.

Responsibility:+ Administers and interprets interest assessments for learners.

+ Works with home school to develop a knowledge of learners' needs based on school\-wide goals.

+ Develops and maintains records of training, placements, and interview results; uses this data to continually modify and improve programs.

+ Prepares students with employment\-seeking skills; Coaches and prepares students for interviews; Schedules and tracks the results of interviews.

+ Develops and supports student work\-based and workplace learning.

+ Develops and maintains a list of available positions in the immediate and surrounding geographic area, and remote or otherwise reasonably accessible opportunities.

+ Cultivate current employment opportunities, improve existing jobs, promote work as a priority to develop responsibility, references, life management, etc.

+ Assists in the use and monitoring RU Ready toward Choice Ready indicators.

+ Completes and maintains Choice Ready reports.

+ Performs routine clerical duties and maintain records, copies and files paperwork.

+ General student supervision as needed. This includes but is not limited to locations indoors and outdoors, such as lunchroom, bus stops, playground, classroom, field trips, public transportation, assemblies, and kitchen.

+ Attends conferences and workshops toward present and future career development. Participates in general staff meetings.

+ Utilizes district guaranteed and viable curriculum including the scope \& sequence of academic and social emotional learning targets along with the defined proficiency scales.

+ Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the learners.

+ Utilizes district behavioral plans as a backbone to promote positive learner behavior.

+ Fosters a safe and equitable learning environment.

+ Utilizes the district protocol for maintaining information on learner progress.

+ Utilizes knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and learners.

+ Creates an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the learners.

+ Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to learners.

+ The employee will work in an environment that has a quiet to loud noise level.

*Education and/or Experience:*+ Bachelor's degree in any field of study.

+ Valid ND Teaching License. Provisional certification may be granted when the candidate is enrolled in an approved CTE alternative teacher education program.

+ Minimum 1 year of employment history, a combination of paid and unpaid experience accepted.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

+ Basic understanding of vocational assessment and counseling techniques.

+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software needed to maintain records and prepare reports.

+ A Career Advisor must complete the Career Development Facilitator Training established by National Career Development Association prior to working with learners.

+ Career development and job search preparation experiences is preferred.

+ Familiarity with scholarship and work study processes is preferred.

+ High initiative, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to function independently

+ Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.

+ Five\-years of employment history, a combination of paid and unpaid experience accepted is preferred.

+ Prior teaching experience is preferred.

+ Prior experience working in a high school setting preferred.

*Language Skills:*+ Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in the English language.

+ Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively.

*Other Skills and Abilities:*+ Exercise confidentiality, discretion, and good judgement.

+ Adhere to the assigned work schedule by maintaining regular and punctual attendance.
