Position Title:

Associate Chief Medical Informatics Officer (ACMIO) for Digital and Data Innovation

Job Summary:

The ACMIO for Digital and Data Innovation will support the use, adoption and optimization of Keck Medicine of USC’s digital, data, and AI solutions in the ambulatory and acute care settings while maintaining part\-time active clinical responsibilities.

The ACMIO for Digital and Data Innovation will work closely with the CIO, Information Services Leadership Teams, Keck Medicine system leadership team, Hospitals and Ambulatory Services Leaders, providers and Clinicians.

The Medical Director of Digital and Data Innovation will be an ambassador of innovation and usage or digital AI solutions to further the impact in the clinical settings.

Chief Medical Informatics Officer (Gil Shlamovitz, MD)

Minimum Education:

Holds an MD or DO degree

Minimum Experience/Knowledge:

  • Minimum of 4 Years Experience as a physician leader with progressive leadership responsibilities.
  • Active medical practice within 12 months preferred.
  • Experience working in the Innovation space utilizing Digital, Data, and AI solutions to implement novel ideas.
  • Experience in medical informatics, clinical systems implementation, process re\-design and change management associated with the introduction of IT to clinical culture.
  • Familiarity with health IT products and digital trends and tools.
  • Practical experience in design and implementation and optimization of health information technology systems.
  • Experience in quality, performance improvement and outcomes management.
  • Experience in leading organizational change preferably including the implementation or optimization of an electronic medical record system across a multi\-facility organization.
  • Possesses outstanding interpersonal skills and able to communicate and engage effectively with attending physicians, fellows, residents, nurses, pharmacists, clerks, administrators, IT personnel and other clinical and non\-clinical staff.
  • Listens well and facilitates informed decision making through verbal and written communication.
  • Able to articulate and demonstrate the benefits and limitations of technical solutions in various clinical and non\-clinical settings.
  • Cerner / Oracle Health experience preferred.
  • Required License/Certification:

  • Licensed to practice medicine in CA or license must be obtained within 180 days of hire. and
  • Board certified in an ACGME recognized specialty. and
  • LA City Fire and Safety Certification. If no certification upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. and
  • Board certified in Clinical Informatics and/or a related degree (as MBA / MPH / MHA / MMM / Informatics) preferred.
  • Position Accountabilities:

  • The ACMIO for Digital and Data Innovation will primarily report to the Chief Medical Informatics Office (CMIO) and have a dotted line to the Associate CIO for Digital and Data Management and to a Keck School of Medicine clinical chair.
  • The ACMIO for Digital and Data Innovation will work on average 4 days (32 hours) a week (Mon – Fri) in information services activities with the remaining 1 day (8 hours) a week on clinical duties or other Keck School of Medicine activities.
  • This is a hybrid position that will include in person and possibly remote days options as assigned by the CMIO.
  • The ACMIO for Digital and Data Innovation will provide clinical informatics services across Keck Medicine of USC facilities as assigned by the CMIO focusing most of their informatics time of Digital and Data Innovation.
  • Adheres to high ethical standards and keeps commitments. Collaboratively lead, solicit input and represents providers, clinicians, patients and business needs and wishes.
  • Promote system thinking while effectively and respectively listening and responding to requests, inquiries and complaints.
  • Leverage clinical data and effective presentation skills while promoting teamwork and cross departmental collaborations.
  • Participates in and leads advisory and work groups and builds trusting relationships with physicians, nurses, clinicians and business leaders and staff.
  • Lead and coordinate transformation of clinical care through the advanced use of information and technology.
  • Provide clinical leadership to improve provider’s engagement with clinical information systems.
  • Enable training and continued education by working with the Information Services training team and by educating clinicians on the appropriate use of information technology and by providing peer to peer support when needed.
  • Support other IT leaders in relationship with hospital leadership, medical school leadership and community practice leaders.
