Position Summary The Veterinary Assistant (VA) is a key member of the medical team, supporting veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians, and client service representatives in delivering high\-quality patient care. This role assists with patient intake, nursing care, diagnostics, treatments, laboratory procedures, anesthesia support, and daily hospital operations while helping provide an exceptional experience for both pets and their owners. Schedule Full\-time and part\-time opportunities available Evening, weekend, and holiday availability required Alternating weekends or one weekend day per week required Schedules are published in advance to support work\-life balance while meeting the needs of our patients and hospital. Primary Job Responsibilities The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily medical operations of the hospital, including: Obtain accurate patient histories, weights, vital signs (TPR), and medical documentation. Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with patient examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and procedures. Safely restrain patients using low\-stress handling techniques. Prepare treatment estimates, consent forms, and medical records. Assist with venipuncture, catheter placement, laboratory sample collection, radiology, anesthesia monitoring, and patient treatments in accordance with hospital policy. Perform in\-house laboratory diagnostics and prepare samples for outside laboratories. Monitor hospitalized patients and promptly communicate changes in patient condition. Maintain treatment areas, exam rooms, surgical suites, pharmacy, and hospital cleanliness. Support patient admissions, discharges, and client education as directed by the medical team. Follow hospital triage and emergency care protocols. Participate in team meetings, coaching sessions, and ongoing professional development. Examples of Veterinary Assistant Responsibilities The Veterinary Assistant must be able to perform these duties while helping maintain Peak Pet Urgent Care's high standards of patient care and teamwork: Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients throughout their visit. Work collaboratively with veterinarians, technicians, and client service representatives to provide efficient patient care. Assist with patient triage and prepare patients for examinations and treatment. Safely restrain patients during exams, diagnostics, radiographs, and procedures. Observe, monitor, and report changes in patient condition. Assist with anesthesia and sedation monitoring as directed. Collect and process laboratory samples, including blood, urine, and fecal samples. Prepare and maintain treatment areas with appropriate equipment and supplies. Assist during emergency procedures, CPR, and patient stabilization efforts. Maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation. Clean, disinfect, and restock hospital areas while following biosecurity protocols. Help ensure hospitalized patients remain comfortable, clean, and well cared for throughout their stay. Contribute to a positive, respectful, and collaborative team culture through professionalism, communication, and accountability. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, sit, talk and listen; will use hand to manipulate, handle or feel; will reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
