The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is charged with protecting the public from the harmful effects of air pollution and developing programs and actions to fight climate change. Mission CARB's mission is to promote and protect public health, welfare, and ecological resources through effective reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering effects on the economy. CARB is the lead agency for climate change programs and oversees all air pollution control efforts in California to attain and maintain health\-based air quality standards. Responsibilities \& Work of CARB Reducing air pollution and protecting public health guide CARB’s actions. Our role is to: + Lead California’s efforts to reduce climate\-changing emissions through measures that promote a more energy\-efficient and resilient economy; + Set the state’s air quality standards at levels that protect those at greatest risk – children, older adults and people with lung and heart disease; + Identify pollutants that pose the greatest health risks, such as diesel exhaust particles, benzene in gasoline and formaldehyde in consumer products; + Measure our progress in reducing pollutants utilizing the nation’s most extensive air monitoring network; + Verify automakers’ emissions compliance at CARB’s renowned Mary D. Nichols Laboratory in Riverside; + Research the causes and effects of air pollution problems – and potential solutions – using the best available science and technology; and Study the costs and benefits of pollution controls, paying particular attention to individuals and communities most at risk. + About \| California Air Resources Board The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is seeking to hire two (2\) student assistants for the Data Analysis role assisting staff with administrative tasks related to policy implementation, data entry, calendar maintenance, research and reporting. Conditions of Employment This is a part\-time, temporary, non\-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre\-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre\-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department. UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list. Students declared major must match the major(s) listed in the job posting. Majors/Fields of Study Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related science or Engineering field. Work Schedule F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 6 AM – 6 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor. Additional Work Schedule Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer). Compensation $20\.00 \- $34\.23 per hour. Minimum Qualifications Successful completion of college\-level math and English composition classes. Ability to gather, compute, and analyze scientific data. Ability to review, check, and interpret air quality data, regulations, maintenance and monitoring plans. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files. Ability to analyze situations and adopt effective course of action. Proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint, in particular). Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to learn quickly and work independently. Preferred Qualifications Strong analytical skills. Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities Assist management, specialist and engineers in the resolution of policy, technical and administrative issues related to air district implementation and enforcement of incentive programs. Manage, monitor, organize documents and calendars. Gather, compute, and analyze scientific data on state and local incentive and regulatory programs. Prepare segments of reports and correspondence. Physical Requirements Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand\-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers, and scanners with or without reasonable accommodation. Working Conditions Work is performed in a remote environment. Students/Employees will be required to work according to the current UEI remote workplace policy and sign a UEI Work from Home Agreement. The decision to permit an employee to work from home is at the discretion of the supervisor or employer and may, at any time and with or without cause, unilaterally terminate the option to work from home.
