Art Studio Assistant

James Corwin is seeking a Part Time to Full Time art studio assistant to join the new location in downtown Missoula, MT. James Corwin is a wildlife artist, represented in galleries around the country, including his own in Hamilton and Missoula, MT. www.jamescorwin.com Please refer to website for familiarity to work and style. Assistants will prepare canvases for oil painting by laying in underpainting and drawings. Painting instruction will be provided. Additional help in assembling canvas to frames, varnishing, brush and paint and studio cleaning. Texturing and Embellishing prints. Packing prints for shipping and drop off. Setting up Paint Night classes. With possibility of teaching Paint Night classes. Assistance hanging artwork in the gallery. Computer administrative work fulfilling online orders, and responding to customer requests. Assistant will have opportunities to travel for art shows to help in installing work and running the exhibition. Realistic wildlife painting is the subject matter and style. Strong abilities in drawing and oil painting skill a MUST. You will also receive artistic instruction to improve your technique. Studio space will be provided and you will learn and refine a step in the painting process, integral to the development of the artwork. Must be able to provide a portfolio of recent artwork. BFA not required, but encouraged. All applicants welcome. You will need to have a portfolio prepared to show with your application. Must be willing to relocate to the studio in Missoula, MT. This is not a remote job. All applicants will be required to perform a proficiency test. Test will be to create a small oil painting (8x10 canvas) based on a photo James Corwin provides. Applicants must recreate the painting in exact likeness to the photo to the best of their abilities. Applicants must also time themselves from start to finish. It does not need to be painted in one sitting, but can be done over time, as long as timer starts each time painting is resumed. Color matching is most important.
