Tranzito is entering Year 4 of a 20 year contract to design, deploy and operate 3,000 smart bus shelters \- and hundreds of other smart infrastructure \- across the City of Los Angeles. We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Construction Manager to support a high\-volume infrastructure deployment program involving up to 400 sites annually. This role is critical in managing the full lifecycle of each site with a strong focus on stakeholder coordination, permitting, utility interfacing, compliance, and project tracking. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast\-paced environment, demonstrates exceptional organizational and analytical skills, and can lead construction activities with both precision and flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Oversight \& Planning
- Support the Program Manager to oversee a large pipeline of up to 400 sites annually, ensuring efficient progress across multiple project stages—from site selection to closeout.
- Transition between high\-level strategic planning and on\-the\-ground issue resolution to keep program milestones on track.
- Manage all phases of construction, including pre\-construction assessments, design reviews, permitting, and construction oversight.
- Attend on\-site meetings and collaborate with city and transit agencies to resolve real\-time issues, maintain momentum, and address field challenges.
- Coordinate with general contractors, subcontractors, city agencies, and other internal/external stakeholders to ensure timely and compliant execution within the public right\-of\-way (ROW).
- Review site design impacts with contractors, city officials, and internal design teams; provide technical guidance to ensure feasibility and adherence to requirements.
- Evaluate public assets for removal and schedule necessary removals and reinstalls using relevant asset management tools.
- Maintain and update Coordination Trackers to reflect accurate communication logs and action items with permitting and oversight agencies.
- Track construction milestone completion using SiteTracker.
- Ensure timely acquisition of all required permits, such as Caltrans, Coastal Commission, Underground, Excavation, and Right of Entry.
- Coordinate, schedule, and document all required inspections to maintain project compliance and closeout requirements.
- Review construction cost estimates, POs, and invoices to confirm accuracy and adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Develop and manage detailed reports, forecasts, and dashboards using Sitetracker to enable proactive tracking and resource planning.
- Compile and submit all closeout documentation to relevant city systems and maintain up\-to\-date project records across internal and external databases.
- Collaborate closely with planning, engineering, operations, and construction teams to ensure alignment and seamless execution of the program.
- Take ownership of specific processes, identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to optimize workflows and drive operational excellence.
- Adapt to shifting priorities and program complexities, consistently demonstrating initiative, flexibility, and resourceful problem\-solving.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 4–7 years of construction or project management experience, preferably in public ROW, infrastructure, or utility\-related projects.
- Proficiency in construction/project management tools such as SiteTracker, Procore, Smartsheet, or similar.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data modeling, forecasting).
- Strong understanding of city permitting, inspection protocols, and ROW regulations.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast\-paced, deadline\-driven environment.
- Proven leadership in coordinating cross\-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- PMP, CCM, or equivalent certification is a plus.
- Experience in smart city, telecommunications or EV infrastructure deployment is a strong advantage.
- $120,000 \- $150,000/year, depending on experience
