- Provides leadership, consultation, and expertise to directors, managers, other staff, and community partners to facilitate community health promotion programs, policies, curricula, campaigns, and initiatives.

- Provides leadership, consultation, and expertise to cross\-divisional managers and staff, schools, community partners, and other organizations involved in facilitating community health promotion programs, policies, curricula, campaigns, and initiatives.
- Provides effective meeting and conversation facilitation to staff and community meetings and forums.
- Builds strong community relationships to facilitate support for county, regional, and state level community health promotion efforts.
- Participates in the development and implementation of long\-term strategic direction and tactical work plans related to the Department’s cross\-divisional health promotion efforts.
- Develops, coordinates, and monitors community plans detailing objectives, tactics, timeframes, and budget requirements for various health programs and projects using evaluation and quality improvement tools.
- Under the direction and guidance of the Director of Public Health, Health Officer, and Division and Assistant Division Director, provides and facilitates legislative advocacy by connecting Pierce and other counties, the state and federal government, community partners, Board of Health (BOH), and Department staff.
- Serves as a SME in community health promotion efforts for media coverage, public service announcements, community information meetings, public forums, and special events. Works closely with the communications team for media coverage, public service announcements, and media inquiries.
- Develops, prepares, and presents reports, proposals, and presentations to the BOH, community organizations, and the public.
- Serves in a lead capacity to HPTs, HPC Is, and HPC IIs, acting as a mentor, coach, and subject matter expert. Assists the supervisor in prioritizing and managing the day\-to\-day work of the team.
- Partners with Program Manager to develop, monitor, manage, and report on relevant budgets, grants, and contracts, and manages deliverables.
- Provides education to decision makers and staff on public health impacts of policies.
- Identifies funding sources and assists in preparing grant applications. Monitors legislation and evaluates impacts of public health initiatives.

- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of relevant experience in a health, environmental, education, government, or other public sector organization.
- 2 years of experience working with underserved communities preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driver’s abstract required prior to employment.

- Work is performed in a variety of settings: in an office, out in the community, nursing facilities, cultural centers, etc. Exposure to hazards is limited to those commonly found in office environments and in the community.

This is an advanced professional classification that is responsible for developing and gaining support for prevention strategies, policies, and systems as they relate to high\-visibility and high\-impact community health promotion activities. Work includes providing expertise to government agencies, community organizations and coalitions, internal and external partners, and leading and representing the Department in regional, state, and federal initiatives. This position may also serve in a lead capacity, directing and reviewing work of other staff within the program.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is the fourth level of the Health Promotion Coordinator (HPC) series. An employee assigned to this classification works independently with minimal direction from their supervisor. The HPC III serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in assigned program areas and provides consultation to staff, outside partners, and the public. This role may lead the work of other HPCs and volunteers in assigned programs.
