JOB SUMMARY:

Position Description:

This customer service\-based position provides public information, computer support services, and is an assistant to the Visitor Center Specialist from the Parks headquarters at Bear Creek Lake Park. Requires effective communication and public relation skills on daily interactions with park visitors and staff. Assists with all office functions, including but not limited to; reservations, collecting fees as well as dispensing park information and regulations. Monitors park radios, relays messages and dispatches to staff. Provides additional support to park staff and special events as needed.

Schedule:

This position will start with part\-time hours in September with work required on Saturdays. There will be the opportunity for more hours (up to 40\) as needed. Part\-time hours will continue in the park’s off season throughout the fall, winter, and spring.

MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Functions:

The position will staff the front desk at Bear Creek Lake Park Visitor Center and perform a variety of functions related to visitor services and administration. Position duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide information and assistance to visitors (distributes maps/ brochures, orients visitors to park facilities and amenities, promotes educational programs, educates on park regulations, etc.).
  • Sell park passes, permits, clothing, firewood and other novelties.
  • Answer telephone and transfer/ take messages.
  • Perform basic administrative tasks including data entry, making signs, laminating, photo copying, filing and other duties as assigned.
  • Collect all types of revenue, cash/credit cards/checks, and inputs all sales into POS system.
  • Closing duties include managing deposits at the end of each shift.
  • Maintain inventory and stock brochures.
  • Process reservations for camping, picnic shelters, and activities. Includes informing visitors of the reservation rules and cancellation policies, maintaining reservation calendar and informing park personnel weekly/daily of reservations.
  • Responding to emails received on the park's email account.
  • Document and report visitor complaints.
  • Cleaning and light maintenance duties of interior and exterior of visitor center and offices.
  • Greeting visitors in a cheerful and courteous manner.
  • Coordinating with park staff by phone and park radio.
  • Handling stressful and emergency situations in a correct manner.
  • May also be required to perform as an ANS boat inspector and maintain the required state certification.
  • May be required to work the front entrance gate.
  • And other tasks deemed necessary.

    ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • College coursework relating to natural resources management or environmental education preferred.
  • Experience:

  • Required experience with computers.
  • Preferred experience working in a park or open space setting.
  • Preferred experience\-registering participants for park passes, camping and picnic sites.
  • Preferred experience working with software; Microsoft Office, CivicRec, etc.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration:

  • Prefer a valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • May be required to maintain State of Colorado boat inspection and decontamination certification.
  • KSA'S AND PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQS:

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate with a wide variety of people, including citizens and City staff in person, by phone, email, and radio, using tact and diplomacy.
  • Knowledge of area wildlife, history, plant species and general natural history.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Must possess the ability to work with little supervision.
  • Must be able to pay attention to detail and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to effectively complete job assignments despite changing priorities and numerous interruptions.
  • Ability to read maps and give directions.
  • Good organizational skills and flexibility.
  • Ability to demonstrate reliability and dependability.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision in difficult and occasionally stressful situations.
  • Ability to work a variety of schedules including weekends, holidays, fulltime and part time hours.

  • Physical Requirements:

    Lifting and Carrying:

  • Ability to lift and carry files and notebooks that may weigh up to 25 pounds, using assistance as needed.
  • Body Positions:

  • Work is performed primarily at desk. Sustained sitting is required for answering the telephone and using a desktop computer. Will also be standing, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to perform tasks. May be moving about park buildings and property. Position requires the ability to input large amounts of data using repetitive motion on a consistent daily basis.
  • Hearing:

  • Must be able to respond to requests in person on the telephone and radio.
  • Vision:

  • Use vision to perform word processing functions, work with written documents and read maps.
  • Mental Requirements:

    Mathematics:

  • Basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division used for giving change, selling park passes and revenue reporting.
  • Remembering:

  • Must remember instructions given as well as City and park policies and procedures.
  • Language Ability:

  • Must communicate verbally, and in writing with citizens and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Reasoning:

  • Must be able to interpret basic requirements, regulations and ordinances. Must be able to take direction and follow instruction from supervisor.
  • WORK ENVIRONMENT :

  • Work is performed in an office setting with some work done outdoors. Frequent contact with citizens, staff, and others. Uses phone and computer regularly.

Pay Range

$25\.15\-$32\.67
