Reports To: Principal/Campus Nurse EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible PRIMARY PURPOSE:+ To assist the school nurse by managing clerical duties and providing minor first aid in the school clinic under the direction of a licensed registered nurse.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:+ High School Diploma/GED
+ CPR/AED/First Aid certification every 2 years
+ Stop the Bleed certification every 2 years
+ Unlicensed Diabetes Care Assistant – Level 2 Annual Training
+ Anaphylaxis/Stock Epinephrine administration annual training
+ Medication administration annual training
+ Annual training on special procedures based on campus population and needs
+ State of Texas Hearing and Vision certified
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:+ Basic first aid\- experience preferred but not required.
+ Skills in operating basic clinic medical equipment such as: thermometer, automatic blood pressure cuff, nebulizer
+ Possess organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
+ Able to use a computer and do data entry after program specific training
+ Able to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
+ Able to react quickly, calmly, and decisively in a crisis situation
EXPERIENCE:+ Previous experience with computer skills
+ Medical office experience preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:+ Enter immunization records in Skyward and update as needed.
+ Check enrolling students for compliant immunization status.
+ Maintain reports on immunizations due, screening referrals, etc as directed by registered nurse.
+ Scan and attach immunization records, screening worksheets, doctor notes, etc into Skyward.
+ Maintain adequate supplies and reorder as necessary.
+ Document all care provided by clinic aid in Skyward according to MISD Health Services policies and training.
+ Administer basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses according to a detailed protocol established by the school nurse, MISD, or medical director.
+ Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, pulse oxygen, and blood pressure) and communicate results to registered nurse for direction.
+ Administer medication to students and maintain proper documentation according to board policy and district procedures.
+ Use Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
+ Adjust and record attendance for students who are sent home ill.
+ Maintain confidentiality of all information regarding students or staff members.
+ Escort students to and from the nurse's office as needed.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
+ Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned

Mental Demands:+ Reading and comprehending simple instruction, short correspondence, and memos.
+ Writing simple correspondence.
+ Calculating insulin doses based on ratios in physician orders.
+ Applying simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions.
+ Understand and follow directions.
+ Maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical demands/environmental factors:- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
+ Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling as needed.
+ Repeating the same hand, arm, or finger, motion many times.
+ Able to assist with transporting, changing and lifting students with mobility needs.
+ Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria and communicable diseases.
