Hourly Pay Range:

$38\.67 \- $59\.94 \- The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

  • Position: Pathologist Assistant
  • Location: Evanston Hospital
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Monday\-Friday, 9am \- 5:30pm
  • Required Travel: Yes
  • What you will do:

  • Under the direct supervision of the Pathologists, examine and prepare specimens for microscopic evaluation by providing gross description and dissection of surgical pathology specimens ranging from biopsies to complex resections.
  • Perform additional special handling of the specimens, including but not limited to flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, radiology or tissue procurement for research.
  • Perform frozen sections and other intra\-operative consultations within established protocol and procedural parameters.
  • Determine proper fixative solutions in which tissue may need to be maintained.
  • Photograph all pertinent gross specimens.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures related to handling, storage and disposal of all specimens while adhering to regulatory and compliance standards regarding biohazard and safety.
  • Assist with training of pathology residents, PA students and pathology technician II’s (when applicable).
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper safety and cleanliness protocols are followed.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, work in harmony with other departments and collaborate effectively in a team.
  • Attention to detail, problem\-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • What you will need:

  • Education: Master’s Degree from a NAACLS accredited Pathologists’ Assistant program.
  • Certification: ASCP Certification (PA, Pathologists’ Assistant) or exam eligible (within 1 year of hire).
  • Experience: New grads welcome, 3\-5 years of experience preferred.
  • Unique or Preferred Skills: Ability to operate a cryostat, cassette printer, safety hood, bone saw, voice recognition software, camera, computer and fax machine. Basic computer knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel).
